News from Lake Wobegon: Keillor Is a Democrat
KARE-11

Radio host and comedian Garrison Keillor finally proclaims what the folks in Lake Wobegon have known for awhile: he's a Democrat.

The host of public radio's "A Prairie Home Companion" has written a book that explains why.

In "Homegrown Democrat: A Few Plain Thoughts From the Heart of America," Keillor mixes his beliefs with a narrative about his upbringing. He also calls the Republican Party "a gang of pirates." ...

6. He has been making his opinion of the Stump quite plain for 4
years now. His attitude has been displayed often by humor.

7. He is a real gem! A truly great American!
Every Saturday evening my wife and I turn on Prairie Home Companion and spend two hours in the retro world of a down home, hilarious, always fresh, always fascinating radio variety show.

The show's humor is some of the best around -- a lot funnier than many of the SNL skits. And he goes right to the core of the Republican mentality of me-me-me instead of us-us-us.

Keillor is an immensely talented national treasure.

8. have you heard Garrison's snarky republican song?
We're all Republicans now
We're all united, and how,
There's no more dissent
We're all in the tent
We're all Republicans now
We're free from worry and cares,
We got ours so let them get theirs.
We live in nice houses, we drive a nice car,
We have more fun cause that's just how we are
We play hard and work hard and, just so you know,
We're smarter than you, that's why we've got the dough,
Cause we're Republicans,
We are Republicans,
We're all Republicans now.

check out the "republicans" script, very funny. also, check out the "reagans" script. funny too.

9. One Big Boob -- Tribute to John Ashcroft
I enjoy We're All Republican's now -- which he does frequently.

But the one I really loved was done on his show last year at WolfTrap outside D.C. by folk artist Tom Paxton. It brought down the house.

JOHN ASHCROFT AND THE 'SPIRIT OF JUSTICE'
By Tom Paxton
(From an idea furnished by Anne Hills)

John Ashcroft went to meet the press
He faced the microphones.
His heart was full of righteousness
His voice like God's trombones.
But then he saw the statue
That was set behind him there.
She was 'The Spirit of Justice'
Yes, but one of her breasts was bare.

John Ashcroft looked with horror
At this gleaming marble globe.
It thrust itself upon him
From a loosely falling robe.
It was so hard to concentrate
On those he there accused
With that marble breast behind him,
Poor John Ashcroft got confused.

Each time he saw that marble breast
The poor man was appalled,
He quickly gave the order
And a curtain was installed.
Now when he makes a statement
You can see him on the tube
He has curtained off the statue
But you'll still see one big boob.

11. I heard him interviewed on the Al Franken show
during the convention. He was smart, funny, and made it very clear that he is a democrat. He and Al make me proud to be a Minnesotan (in exile in FL).
