Kerry Mocks Bush's 'Itsy Bitsy' Campaign Slogan
GREENSBURG, Pa. (Reuters) - Democratic White House challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) mocked President Bush (news - web sites)'s new "turning the corner" campaign slogan on Saturday and said he offered voters more than "little itsy bitsy" sound bites.
...

"I think the American people are a heck of a lot smarter than some of these politicians and political consultants think they are," Kerry told more than 8,000 people gathered in a light drizzle outside a railway station in Greensburg, a Republican stronghold in western Pennsylvania.

"They keep telling them, 'just talk in this tiny, little, itsy bitsy sound bite. Be negative, go out there and attack."
...

Both candidates campaigned in key battleground states, sometimes less than a hundred miles from each other. In Pennsylvania, Kerry drew large crowds, including what he said were up to 20,000 people in Harrisburg.

1. Oh, I Agree With Bush...
We have turned a corner.
My husband says into a dark alley.
I say it's a hard right turn!

Please, the media and public may go for quick sound bites, but "turning the corner" has got to be the worst campaign slogan since "don't change horses in the middle of the stream"

2. I agree...
We're bogged down in Iraq with no end game in sight; the American people, AT BEST, have been misled; we have a stagnant economy when it comes to real wages and jobs; and we're hated around the world. I would definitely say that qualifies as turning the corner, but hardly the turn that gets one re-appointed. Let's hope the braintrust that came up with that slogan keeps churnin' 'em out in rapid fashion! This thing may be over before we think!

He was very critical of Bush without ever seeming to pick on the poor
little guy. Well done!

9. I was there for the rally and loved the Hoover slogan parallel !
“Prosperity is just around the corner.” Herbert Hoover 1932
“We'ver turned the corner.” George W Bush 2004

If Kerry hammers this point home the media may actually get wind of it and turn Bush's new slogan into a mockery of *'s presidency and campaign.

Edited on Sat Jul-31-04 06:13 PM by rmpalmer
people. It was at Greensburg Train Station, surrounded by buildings, streets and hills.

Overflow were on the streets on hill above site. And it was in a steady rain. I was wondering if they had picked a bigger venue if they could've had an even bigger crowd!

25. Right, it was a small venue. Many hundreds climbed a hill
beyond the station to get a view. Kerry 'saluted' us for hanging out in the rain and hiking up a very steep and slippery hill.

I noticed on all the national news broadcasts tonight that they mentioned Kerry was getting large crowds. The size of Bush's wasn't really stated except that there were pockets of protesters and Kerry supporters.

I can honestly say at the Greensburg, PA rally there was not one Bush supporter in sight.

The only protesters were AIDS activists who Kerry acknowledged and went off his script to give an impassioned statement on the AIDS crisis and that we need to do much more.

31. Goes right along with the Fed's "on the cusp" with regards to jobs and
the recovery. Sort of a "trust us" and things will get better. Been hearing that BS for over 3 years.

The country took a wrong turn with Shrub, the only way out of the mess they created is to do a complete U-turn back to the Democrats!

37. You go John Kerry; you left the best for last
The Kansas City Star has the whole front page of Friday's newspaper engulfed by Kerry's wonderful photo of the "salute" at the convention.
He looks so presidential and just awesome. My husband and I are both so excited about John Kerry being our next president. It's such a feeling of pride having someone of his caliber representing this country.: yourock: We can't salute like you do Senator Kerry, but do want to give you our

Missourians for Kerry/Edwards
