Bush's ratings slipping in state (California)
ISSUES: California voters score him lower on the war in Iraq, terrorism and the economy.

Sunday, August 8, 2004

By BRADLEY WEAVER / The Press-Enterprise

President Bush's job-approval rating has dropped to its lowest level since before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and in many other categories he is at or near the lowest point of his presidency, according to a poll released today. Just 41 percent of registered California voters surveyed said Bush was doing a good job overall, while 55 percent objected to his performance, according to results of the Field Poll, produced for The Press-Enterprise and other California media subscribers.

(snip)

The Field Poll showed that 47 percent of voters surveyed said they thought Bush was doing a good job fighting terrorism. In January 2002, 82 percent approved of the president's anti-terror efforts. Support for Bush's Iraq policy also dropped.

(snip)

Forty-seven percent of voters surveyed said Kerry is the presidential candidate more likely to bring a satisfactory end to the war in Iraq. Thirty-eight percent of voters picked Bush. But neither candidate got a high endorsement for being trustworthy. About three-fifths of all voters said they had doubts and reservations about each man... Voters surveyed said the economy, terrorism and the war in Iraq were the most important issues in this election. The war in Iraq was ranked first by Democrats, followed closely by the economy.

(snip)

"California is a state that we have opportunity in," Stanzel said, pointing to Republican Gov. Schwarzenegger's victory in last year's recall election. "We're confident that over the next 87 days, voters will learn the clear differences between Bush's positive vision for the country and Kerry's pessimistic outlook." The Field Poll is based on telephone interviews with 415 registered California voters conducted between July 30 and Thursday. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

1. No chimp ads on tv in So. Cal.
I've seen four or five Kerry bumper stickers for every chimp sticker.
Yesterday I was in a wealthy repuke area and saw many Kerry stickers and some yard signs. Kerry has a lock on this state and chimpco knows it.

2. Swarzengropper's win was an abberation
Chimpie can't win out here. Even where I live, a rural area, bush country in more ways than one, support for chimpie is weak.

4. I have seen quite a few Shrub stickers
I live in San Diego and the further you get into east county the more Shrub stickers you see. I agree, shrumb must know he doesn't have a chance in hell in winning California. Not even the terminator can help him win this state.

Banning and up into the mountains today, and back around through Hemet. NOT ONE - repeat - NOT ONE bush-cheney sticker did I see, on the freeways, at the mountaintop, anywhere. Lots of Kerry stickers. Lots of anti-bush stickers, and one "War is Not the Answer" sticker. Plus, one young man at the top of the mountain where we stopped - complimented me on the Kerry button I now wear all the time on my hat. We were out ALL DAY LONG. Three-hour drive each way. NONE.

bush must know he's just wasting his time and his money here. Heck, Arnold wasn't even going to come to his own state's republi-CON convention. And apparently Barbara Boxer's well on her way to reelection, too. No chance in hell. Unless they do something devious. But there are other states where their efforts along those lines would probably have a better shot. It's a total write-off out here. He might as well not even bother. But he's free to throw away more money if he insists.

9. I'm a Northern Californian who just returned from Georgia.
I saw one single pathetic Bush / Cheney yard sign on my trip. Sadly, I didn't see a single Kerry / Edwards sign or bumpersticker.

I even asked a waitress in Georgia to keep asking folks to vote for Kerry. She said, "Are you kidding? I gave my brother a voter registration form for his birthday. He'd better vote for Kerry...or, else!"

Mostly, up here in Northern California I see Kerry bumperstickers...and very few Bush / Cheney bumperstickers.

:D

3. We hate Bush. We're still paying for Enron's rape of our energy markets.
Rove is smart enough to know there's not chance of winning in Cali. Zero. Zilch. They'll make a few token appearances but they will not commit significant resources.

I haven't seen any Bush/Cheney ads here in Los Angeles.

5. I read somewhere that Bushco will attempt to
disrupt California on election day, causing traffic to come to a standstill, etc., probably with a terror alert. The article I read (sorry, I don't recall where) said that Californians should vote very early in the day (not after work) or vote absentee. Also, the article said to check and make sure your registered to vote. Not a bad idea to prepare for the worst cause there's nothing Bushco would like better than for us on the West Coast to decide it's too much trouble to get to the polls.

http://cryptome.org/terror-coup.htm

California is the Target!

TERRORISM AND THE ELECTION: NO POSTPONEMENT, JUST BEDLAM AT THE POLLS AND A LOW TURNOUT ON THE WEST COAST IS BUSH’S PLAN FOR "VICTORY"

---

IMHO, it won't be close enuf here in CA to matter, maybe Ore or Wash ?

7. There aren't any ads in the Sacramento or San Francisco markets, either
If Bush were any less popular in California, one would have to go underground to find his approval ratings.

Schwarzenegger's popularity is purely personal. He may be re-elected in 2006, but he's likely to end up being the only Republican winning statewide office and having to work with a Democratic legislature. His popularaity won't rub off on anybody else and certainly not the Frat Boy.

8. This is completely rediculous!
Any cave dweller knows that an approval rating more than .01% is too much.

10. Duh
Culeeforneeya is a chimp free zone. The $1000 that Iv'e sent JK will/has been spent in "battle ground" states. No problem here. I'm just glad to be a native of the left coast where men don't wed their sisters.
