4. Just on teevee news...
caught the last of it, with no details of what happened, but he got a desk appearance ticket-- just a simple violation, less than a misdemeanor.

10. No big deal...
it's normal procedure to cuff anyone "taken downtown" even if the charge is minor. I was cuffed over a simple traffic ticket when they had to impound the car. Twice, actually, and the second time it was when they drove me home. Nice for the neighbors to see the cop taking the cuffs off when he dropped me off in front of the house.

It would be kinda interesting to know just what pissed the cops, though. It must have been just a little more than double parking.

Haven't we basically conceded defeat to the terrorists with all of this police-state over reaction?

Pretty much all al-Qaeda has to do to shut down a city these days is send out a dark-skinned guy with a camera and some surveillance equipment. They don't have to hijack airplanes or pack cars with explosives, all it takes to disrupt our way of life is vague rumor and innuendo.

24. I agree; we need more powerful journalists locked up
basically it is the powerful journalists like Wallace who are to blame for why we do not have universal healthcare and other social safety net stuff like all the rest of the other western countries. They are the ones who have let the politicians screw us over like this. I hope Wallace gets what is coming to him.....

...Wallace then approached the two inspectors, Fromberg said, in an "overtly assertive and disrespectful manner." Wallace was asked to step away three times by the inspectors. Wallace did not comply.

After the third request to step aside, Wallace " at one of the inspectors," Fromberg said.
...
Luigi Militello, owner of Luke's Bar and Grill, told CNN that Wallace is a regular customer at his restaurant and "anyone that knows him can tell you he doesn't behave wildly."

Militello said he observed the incident from inside the restaurant. Although Militello could not hear what was said, he said the inspector acted unprofessionally.

"One of the officers was totally out of line," Militello said. "He manhandled him as if he was a common criminal."

Wallace called Militello after he was released from the precinct to let him know he was home "eating his meatloaf."

Isn't Wallace almost 90 years old?

18. Witnesses say Wallace did nothing, call incident "appalling" --
"Ernesto Cavalli, Witness: 'He is 86 years old. The poor guy can not... the inspector can say what he wants. It is a lie. It is a lie. Plain and simple. I saw the whole thing. If I have to, I will be a witness.'

Diane Dawson, Witness: 'They threw him in cuffs. There were policemen and, i mean, it was unbelievable. It was appalling. He didn't do anything.'"

21. What is the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC)?
I don't understand. The article is quoting a person from TLC. Wallace's vehicle was registered with TLC. They were TLC inspectors. Wallace was taken to an unmarked TLC vehicle. Then, he was "escorted" to the 19th precinct.

What in teh hell is the TLC? Are they an extension to local police?

23. Looks like they are seperate from the NYPD
From the website:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/about/about.shtml

What is the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission?
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), created in 1971, is the agency responsible for licensing and regulating New York City's medallion (yellow) taxicabs, for-hire vehicles (community-based liveries and black cars), commuter vans, paratransit vehicles (ambulettes) and certain luxury limousines. The Commission's Board consists of nine members, eight of whom are unsalaried Commissioners. The salaried Chair/Commissioner presides over regularly scheduled public Commission meetings, and is the head of the agency, which maintains a staff of approximately 400 TLC employees assigned to various divisions and bureaus. The Hon. Matthew W. Daus was named as Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani's designee to the Chair of the TLC in June 2001 and was unanimously confirmed by the New York City Council on August 22, 2001. He was then reappointed by Mayor Bloomberg in July 2003 and was again unanimously confirmed by the New York City Council on July 23, 2003.

The TLC licenses and regulates over 50,000 vehicles and approximately 100,000 drivers, performs safety and emissions inspections of the 12,187 medallion taxicabs three times each year, and holds numerous hearings for violations of City and TLC rules and regulations, making it the most active taxi and limousine licensing regulatory agency in the United States.

What is your take on this story if the TLC can not make arrests? What kind of authority do they have? It sounds to me as if they were acting as police officials.

Thanks for posting.. this is really disturbing me for some reason.

29. "What an Awful Thing to do to a Big Star like you, Miss Lawson !!!"
Who the fuck is Mike Wallace that NYC laws don't apply to him?

The aristocratic disdain that Wallace exhibits in this story, telling an officer to "Chill Out." as he disregards the law, is truly disgusting.

Wallace needs to learn that "Yes! Even a Famous Celebrity has to obey the law."

If he was not blocking traffic, meaning there was room for the guys in his back to go around,,,then the case seems far different...

compassion appears missing here. This here is supposed to be the Compassionate Nation under one W Bush??
