California's Greens reject Nader's bid for state ballot
San Francesco Chronicle

Ralph Nader, who failed to secure enough signatures to get on the Nov. 2 ballot in California, suffered another political setback Tuesday when state Green Party leaders rebuffed a move intended to make him the state party's presidential nominee.

The California Green Party's executive committee rejected the idea of holding a special general assembly -- a state nominating convention -- that could have put Nader and his vice presidential running mate, Peter Camejo, on the state ballot.

Cres Vellucci, spokesman for the California Green Party, said the state party had reaffirmed the national party's nomination of presidential candidate David Cobb and running mate Patricia LaMarche in California, the state with the largest Green Party membership. ..

Nader's campaign spokesman Kevin Zeese downplayed the matter, saying the campaign was still examining its legal and political options. "There's a number of things we have in the fire,'' he said. ..

1. it's clear to me if Nader can't get on ballot in California
the state he received the most votes in 2000, that he should probably consider dropping out.

7. Doesn't Matter One Bit
Nader isn't running to be elected President, he's running to split the
Democrats and destroy the Democratic party. It is unlikely that
he could throw California to Booosh, and staying off the ballot
here prevents people from doing the "Nader trader" thing (which
Nader actually sued to stop in 2000). Nader traders were taking
Nader at his word -- that he was going for the 5% nationally. His
actions, of course, were to conduct a deliberate spoiler campaign.

In 2000, Nader's campaign was all about the swing states -- all he
did in California then was raise money. He spent nearly all of
October in states where Gore was just a little bit ahead, spreading
the idea that there was no difference between them, but nonetheless
attacking only Gore, and getting a few percent to vote for him instead
of Gore. It worked. It made the election close enough for * to steal.

If the Repubs wanted Nader on the ballot in California, he would be.

Though the Repub's increasingly overt support of Nader could be
backfiring two ways: The lefties who would have supported Nader
in the past are driven away, and some Repubs who are disgusted with
Booosh may use this implicit endorsement as an excuse to vote for
Nader if they've absorbed too much repub propaganda to vote Kerry.
There was one recent poll that showed Bush* doing *worse* with Nader
in the race.

4. What was it he had said about the
Green's when they picked someone else as their nominee? That they were a strange bunch or something like that? Bet he wishes he hadn't said that. I am glad this happened. Serves the arrogant SOB right.

5. His persistence is perplexing.
International Greens have opposed running candidates at the national level from the very beginning for obvious reasons like we learned in '00. Ralph has become far too complicated to support for any office IMO.
