Kerry now leads Bush in latest Michigan poll
LANSING, Mich. (AP)

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who has been locked in a tight state race with President Bush for months, now leads in the latest poll of Michigan voters.

Forty-nine percent of the 600 likely voters surveyed statewide by Lansing-based EPIC/MRA say they back Kerry and running mate John Edwards, while 42% say they back Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, who was scheduled to campaign Wednesday evening in Battle Creek.

Three percent say they support independent candidate Ralph Nader and his running mate, Peter Camejo. Six percent are undecided. The poll was conducted from Aug. 4 through Tuesday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. ..

1. Fabulous.
Can't spin this one away; although the sample isn't very big.

2. A seven point spread?
That's great. Is your local media spinning it as a tie?

3. if the Independents or undecideds break 2-1 for Kerry
Then Kerry will be carrying Michigan by a margin of 55-45. Not too shabby.

6. Michigan will be Blue in November
Every day I get calls at our Dem HQ from people who call themselves Independents. They aren't usually very political but they dislike Bush very much. They come to us for lawn signs and bumper stickers etc. They volunteer and throw fundraisers and it's great.

We are making the most of this opportunity Team Bush has unwittingly given to us.

7. Michigan will go for Kerry.
I'm banking on it. I have only seen one BUsh/Cheney sign here in Macomb County. I think those who may be supporting Bush are afraid to openly display it. No one wants to be associated with a loser.

12. I live in Warren and haven't seen many Bush or Kerry signs
I have seen lots of bumper stickers for both-Kerry in Detroit, Royal Oak and Warren, Bush in western Wayne County and GR (of course).

15. Another way to look at it: Bushonomics gives Michigan the blues.
We are one of the states with very high unemployment rates, thanks to the BFEE and their friends in low places.

I'm a State fan, but I'll say Go Blue in this case. :)

18. it's not impossible.
I wouldn't count OH out.
For instance, in the last election, the difference between Gore and Bush was only 3.6 %, much closer than predicted.
And that with Gore deciding not to spend money in OH because he didn't think he could have won.

17. "Now" leads?
Hasn't Kerry held the lead in MI for quite awhile? Hell, SurveyUSA's Aug. 4 poll put the spread at 11 points, not 7.

22. I have seen
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 02:23 PM by fujiyama
only two or three polls among some 15 or so that had Bush with a lead and that too one of them might have been by FOX and the other two were by the Detroit News (RW paper).

Kerry will win this state, but I hope he visits again sometime. I haven't had a chance to attend one of the rallies.
