Authorities in West Virginia said they were investigating a shooting incident at a convenience store late Wednesday in Dunbar, about 6 miles from Charleston. Police said no one was killed or injured in the incident around 11:30 p.m., but Police Captain R. L. Gillespie said a 16-year-old girl told authorities she was the intended target.
Curtis Sullivan, also 16, said he was parked near the store when he heard at least one shot and saw people in the parking lot scatter. Sullivan said drove the girl and two of her companions to a nearby grocery store for safety.
A short time after that shooting was reported, a deputy pursued and then lost a pickup truck he saw speeding down U.S. Route 60, a dispatcher said. Police searched the area for several hours but did not find the truck or its driver.
