GOP to talk about (9/11) attacks at convention
Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is among the speakers in the Aug. 30 session at Madison Square Garden whose theme - "courage of a nation" - focuses on the attacks and could reignite criticism that the Republicans are trying to use the tragedy for political gain.

"The reality is, this convention is going to address the issue of 9/11 with the utmost sensitivity and the highest level of respect, admiration, sympathy and love for those families who lost loved ones," convention spokesman Leonardo Alcivar said.

Yet the night's heavy focus on September 11, always a politically treacherous topic, had area residents - Democrats and Republicans - and some victims' relatives concerned that the Republicans may go too far.

"There's no question in my mind they are trying to make this a political event," said William Doyle, a Staten Island Republican and officer in the group 9/11 Families for a Secure America. Doyle's son died in the collapse of the World Trade Center.

"There's no question in my mind they are trying to make this a political event," said William Doyle

Well, it is the Republican Party convention, by definition EVERYTHING that happens there is a "political event"!

3. Was there ever any doubt?
Seemed pretty obvious when they went to all the trouble of getting several states' ballot laws changed so they could push the convention back as close to the anniversary as possible.

6. Bush/Cheney Return to the Scene of the Crime
As criminals are wont to do.

Will they venture downtown to view the pit where the dust of the 3000 still lies?

I predict massive karma backlash for those two.

7. Like Naizs discussing Jewish deaths in Dachau
Both sets of deaths were caused by the Party Leadership.

Both sets of deaths were of the Hated Scapegoated People (in Dachau Jews, in NYC Liberals).

At least the Nazis didn't pretend they loved the Jews who they didn;t consider Real Germans in the SAME WAT the Busheviks don;t consider New Yorkers Real Americans.

So, the NAZIS were more honest than the Busheviks, in that regard.

8. Didn't Bush once pledge to not exploit 9/11 for political gains?
Now THAT would make an interesting ad. Contrast that statement with what Bush has been doing.

9. pathetic, but really, what else do they have to tout?
George has nothing but failure next to his name.

There is nothing they can point to as a postive. Most people recognize that Iraq was a failure and did not bring any sort of freedom to anyone, including the citizens of the US who are now being driven lock step, into all the slings and arrows of that war. We are captives of Bush's stupidity and incompetancy and so is he. No we are not free at all--we are strapped, daily, by the war, from the loss of American lives haunting the pages of local newspapers that cover the funerals, to the absolute slaughter of tens of thousands of innocents that was perpetrated in our name.

10. Well, there's a surprise!
Who could have imagined that they would exploit the deaths of 3,000 people in an attack that happened on their watch for political gain? Wowee, color me astonished!

11. sept 11
Our side paid respect to the people of Sept 11th, and a rememberance
and that was it.

The Republicans use this on every speach every day, I am getting
tired of it, this was a national tragedy, but enough is enough.

Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 11:12 AM by thebigidea
uh, massive attack on American soil that slipped through all our defenses?

with Monkeyboy caught glassy-eyed, staring at a dumb kiddy book?

darting around the country, scared out of his mind, waiting for Karen Hughes to give him some dialogue?

thousands dead, warnings unheeded, memos ignored?

this is good, somehow?

they might as well run on the great chicago fire or something.
