Obituary backs 'removal of Bush' - Woman 'thought he was a liar'
<snip>

When Sally Baron's family wrote her obituary, they described a northern Wisconsin woman who raised six children and took care of her husband after he was crushed in a mining accident.

She had moved to Stoughton seven years ago to be closer to her children and was 71 when she died Monday after struggling to recuperate from heart surgery. Her family had come to the question of what might be a fitting tribute to her.

"My uncle asked if there was a cause," her youngest son, Pete Baron, said.

Almost in unison, what her children decided to include in the obituary was this: "Memorials in her honor can be made to any organization working for the removal of President Bush."

"She thought he was a liar," Baron's daughter, Maureen Bettilyon, said. "I think his personality, just standing there with that smirk on his face, and acting like he's this holy Christian, that's what really got her."

Bettilyon, who lives in Stoughton, said her mother didn't trifle with petty neighborhood squabbles but was attuned to significant policy-making at all levels.

2. she called him a "whistle-ass"!
"She'd always watch CNN, C-SPAN, and you know, she'd just swear at the TV and say 'Oh, Bush, he's such a whistle ass!' She'd just get so mad," Bettilyon said.

:-) This made my day, I wish I knew this woman.

Living up here in Madison, I always thought my neighbors to the very near south in 'Schtoughton' were generally more conservative than that.

Way to go, hey! (but sorry about you dying and all that...)

22. haha look at this
Joe Baron said that the day his mother died he spent a lot of time waiting in the lobby, and so he sat and looked at the paper.

"I noticed that 776 years earlier to the day, Genghis Khan died. And we got quite a chuckle out of that, you know?" he laughed. "Anyhow, yeah, she was a great lady."

"She was real tough, real strong," Bettilyon said. "They never sued the mining company or anything, and my parents were so helpful to us. We're people who waste money, and they never wasted money. They helped all of us buy houses."

The decision to put the line in about Bush came easily, although after several family members thought of it, there was some "how can we really say this" kind of laughter. "It should be impeachment, not removal," Pete said, laughing. "That can mean a couple of things."

I'm so proud to live in Madison now - this woman's family is an awesome tribute to who she was. I would love to see how far this carries. I encourage everyone here to send it to at least 10 people you know, and encourage them to forward it - after they write a check for at least five bucks to any organization that Sally would be proud to support. and make sure to include her name on the check.

From another thread: Democrats start group to try to "recall" Bush
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=76700

http://www.bushrecall.org/petition/

<snip The Constitution provides no way to recall a president through a ballot initiative, as California voters have a chance to do to Democrat Gray Davis in October.

Instead, the PAC will work to defeat Bush in next year's election, building lists of supporters through a petition drive and raising money to run ads against the Republican, he said. snip>

117. me, too! reminds me a lot of my own late, great mom, and a story...
As mom's brain tumor progressed and affected her mind, hospital staff would monitor her mental state by asking her to recall the current date, her birthday, who was president, etc.--the latter question always drawing quick and sharp responses, like "Bush, that phony!" or "That weasel Bush!" Amused staff invariably seemed to take this as positive proof of continuing sanity...Dear Sally and Jean, I hope you two are sharing a chuckle now about that!

for the Democratic nominee for President for 2004 in this dear woman's name, Sally Baron!

Her children should be proud of her and of what they did by inserting this into her obit. It takes courage and the entire family deserves kudos for that!

Being a D from the hugely R Sensenbrenner congressional district (Waukesha County, Meno Falls, WI, just outside of Milwaukee), I wondered also if the reporter was related.

She inspired me! It's not much because I'm broke from my daughter's high school fees/school clothes.

Has anyone donated to Dean before? I did during the Cheney challenge, but this time after sending, I got the screen to fill out the form again. Did it go through? I don't want to mail the family unless I know I really donated.

also, I made 20 copies of the article about Sally's obit, in case any special people ask me about Sally.....

my final sign is now built...it is about seven feet long, about two and half feet high, with wooden poles holding up both ends on which American Flags are mounted...so it's high profile....will walk across the Potomac River with the sign tomorrow and into DC.....in honor of Sally....(and it's a dual-use sign,,,the back says "BUSHVILLE"...a sign for the village on the National Mall that will be set up after the March....)

thanks a lot.....AMEN1234

I hope the family is comforted by all the support flowing from patriots who are inspired by her wisdom and by her family's courage. It took guts to allow the printing of their sentiments.

Let them know that she will be remembered by people who never had the privilege of knowing her.

Nice to see a commoner do so well in death. I have caught myself heckling the TV. Liars, is what they are. Now I remember hearing the term whistledink, but not whistleass. Maybe that was a whistle in W's shorts when he appeared on the air craft carrier. Good thread, makes you laugh and cry at the same time.

with this old man. We talked weather, sports etc. I said how hot it was in Iraq. It was like flicking a switch. The old guy started off with "That crazy Texan... The rest was about how Bush STARTED this war. He didn't get any international support from our allies-let alone neutral or Arab countries. He started it with barely half of America supporting this stupid adventure, and only after he used that magic word "NUCLEAR".

Veteran's benefits...lots of people here connect to that...it seems that even the military people where I live (big pro-war guys in February) are really getting upset about the on-going carnage, and have turned into anti-war guys....I met a guy at the office in my apartment clubhouse today...he looked really upset...and then he blurted out that he just buried his cousin today at Arlington National Cemetary (which is just a few miles from here)...everyone in the lobby just burst into tears....

we all talked about the Iraq war, and everyone wants OUR troops to come home...

Just for people who weren't online yesterday...this story filled me with so much hope. It was a pleasure yesterday to make the acquaintance of Sally Baron, if her family had any idea how much their sweet ole mother and grandmother touched the hearts of people all over, it would surely bring them comfort. I hope there aren't any freepers in their community doing things that aren't very nice.

And we are offering Whistles as a promotion in honor of Sally -- we think that she'd love hearing THOUSANDS of protesters blowing the whistle on BUSH to Remove him from the White House..

that's been our goal as well..

We are seriously thinking of trying to organize a Million Whistle Blowers March on the White House or the Repig NYC convention..
