Snowmobile vendors look for 'certainty' in coming winter season

By SCOTT McMILLION Chronicle Staff Writer

People in the snowmobile business in West Yellowstone breathed a sigh of relief this week with the news that Yellowstone National Park will open its gates to snowmobiles this winter.

It didn't hurt that the announcement arrived in August, in time for marketing campaigns to ratchet up.

"That's the best thing that could have happened to us," said Glenn Loomis, a town council member and a partner in one of the community's largest snowmobile rental operations. "I'm telling people the park is open and I can show them a remarkable experience."

1. Could be worse -- they could have no snow.

Happened to us here last year -- the Sebago Lake region has hundreds of miles of trails, most of which were bare for most of of the winter....
