Letter from Bush Campaign to TV Station Managers
Townhall,com News Wire

Dear Station Manager:

Your station is being asked to run an ad from John Kerry's presidential campaign wrongly accusing Bush-Cheney '04 of violating the campaign finance laws. We ask that your station set the record straight.

It is completely false and without any evidence that the Bush "campaign supports a front group attacking John Kerry's military record," as the Kerry ad states. The Bush-Cheney campaign flatly rejects this baseless allegation of illegal coordination between Bush-Cheney '04 and a group called Swiftboat Veterans for Truth. The ad running on your station contains this false and libelous charge. ..

The Kerry campaign is hiding behind the law which does not permit your station to reject this false advertising by a candidate. But your station can insure that the record is clear in your total program. We ask that you to do that.

Respectfully,

Ken Mehlman

Campaign Manager

18. socaldem - i totally hear you on this. can i say a little something
this is just on my behalf no one elses so im not trying to speak for anyone. sorry for the long post.... please dont read if youre not up to it, i completely understand.

i also completely understand that you (and others) would talk about the rapture that way. i know its hard to believe in on its own let alone the way the administration has completely used and blasphemed God (again my opinion). plus all the devastation this tight little group has brought far and wide - well well documented here at du!

but for me i completely believe in the rapture.

(im kinda chuckling here) and from the sheer mess that bush has wrought i wouldnt be surprised at anything that happens
im not saying its the rapture because i cant know but i just sit here with amazement at their brazeness and utter contempt and arrogance. im not sure if its going to be a fireball or what but these people put us all in danger thats for sure!

i have certainly thought if bush says he is a Christian, i have nooooo idea what that makes me!

oh well not to go off on that bent i guess i just wanted to say that not all those who say they believe are the same.

thanks for reading this. take care... and i really hope it was ok to write you this. i dont mean to offend in the least.

No one I know has ever returned from the hereafter to tell us what's ahead, so until we each leave this place, we will never know for sure. People who do believe take comfort from the knowing, and those of us who don't believe, could be pleasantly surprised O8)

If there is to be such a thing, I would certainly hope it would be instigated by someone other than Bush.. Surely HE is a false prophet.. in his case "profit" is closer to the truth..

 to you

Do ya think . . . ."the law which does not permit your station to reject this false advertising by a candidate. . . " might apply to *'s Olympic "two more countries are free" ad?

The Iraqi soccer coach was just quoted on another thread as having said, "Iraq is not free. We are under occupation. This is one of the most miserable times."

13. I highly doubt the station is being "asked" to run the ad
Slimey Mehlman floats the wording as if it's a public service message rather than a paid ad. More gutter politics as usual from them.

I have to say, it was a stroke of genious to get this up on townhall.com. Now, they just have to wait and see how this plays out. If/when the SCLM tells this story, B/C can say "See! They ran it anyway! That just PROVES they're liberal and biased against our great and holy president and leader! This president wants this campaign to be about the issues." The other side of the coin is to repeat "The president wants this campaign to be about the issues. John Kerry clearly wants to keep focused on bashing the president with statements that have no credibility." (bcc to Station Manager with PS note..."A member of our team will be contacting you to confirm an exclusive interview from a GOP leader within 3 days")

"It is completely false and without any evidence that the Bush "campaign supports a front group attacking John Kerry's military record," as the Kerry ad states."

Yeah....right! So why is it that DUers were able to find dozens of county GOP websites that were linking to or promoting the Swiftboat Liars.

See Skinner's thread, here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=649597

Good thing DUers were able to create lots of screen captures, even as the gremlins were scrubbing the info from their sites.

15. So... Procter & Gamble could write a letter to the station
and "ask" them to NOT run an ad by Lever Brothers, that compares competing "products"??

The repubes have actually said that the "roll out" in August of a "new product" would not be good, so they DO consider their candidate a "product"..

Same difference, no??

Minnesota GOP Has Illegal Ties To Swift Boat Veteran for Truth (SBVT)
along with GOP Larry Colson, Bush-Cheney 2004 Minnesota eCampaign Chairman.

Mr. Colson also works closely with Minnesota GOP Information Technology Director, Joel Cary who together built the GOP’s WebVoter system. See further information at bottom of page.

Minnesota is considered a key Bush-Cheney GOP battleground state and both men are listed on the following GOP official staff roster:

Florida, and now Minnesota GOP illegally supporting Swift Boat Veterans organization:

Official Minnesota Republican Website Linked to Swift Boat Ads and Book. Webpage “Prepared and Paid for by Republican Party of Minnesota”.

In Minnesota, like Florida--a battleground state with polls showing Bush & Kerry in a dead heat—an official Republican Party webpage was recently found to be linking to the Swift Boat Ads. The webpage goes on to question Kerry and has these questions about John Kerry's service in Vietnam: SWIFT VETS ARE GETTING TO KERRY; DID HE LIE ABOUT HIS SERVICE, repeatedly, in an effort to embellish it? DID HE TAKE CREDIT for engagements fought by other men (Lt. Ted Peck in particular)? The website also contains a link to purchase the book produced by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, "Unfit For Command".

23. SAMPLE LETTER TO SEND TO YOUR LOCAL STATIONS
Dear Station Manager:

Your station is being asked to run an ad from John Kerry's presidential campaign accusing Bush-Cheney '04 of violating the campaign finance laws. I ask that your station set the record straight.

The New York Times investigated the claims of the veterans as well as the links of these individuals to the Bush Administration (“Friendly Fire: The Birth of An Anti-Kerry Ad”, 8/20/2004). The associations are numerous, the relationships longstanding and the claims that the group is not associated with the administration are lies. The evidence that the Bush "campaign supports a front group attacking John Kerry's military record," as the Kerry ad states, cannot be denied. The Bush-Cheney campaign flatly rejects these allegations of illegal coordination between Bush-Cheney '04 and a group called Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, but fails to address the evidence. Pronouncements are not enougfh in the face of overwhelming evidence. They claim Kerry’s ad running on your station contains this false and libelous charge. If that’s the case, call their bluff and let them sue.

The Kerry campaign is up against the law that does not permit your station to reject this Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth ad for false advertising by a candidate. But your station can insure that the record is clear in your total program. We ask that you to do that and that you not be intimidated by implied threats from an administration out of control and ready to hold onto power at any cost.

Respectfully,

xxxx xxxx
