Republicans for Kerry (launched a new group today -Oregon)
PORTLAND, OR 2004-08-26 (OPB Radio)

About a dozen influential Republicans launched a new group today: the Oregon Republicans for Kerry Steering Committee.'

George Atiyeh, the nephew of Oregon's former Republican governor Vic Atiyeh, and his uncle Ed Atiyeh decided to co-chair the new organization, saying their party has been taken over by right-wing conservatives who don't represent mainstream values anymore.

The former governor's niece, Deb Atiyeh, says her influential uncle isn't saying who he'll vote for, but after decades of voting Republican, she's switching parties.

Deb Atiyeh: I personally feel that George Bush has gone too far to the right and has abandoned mainstream thinking on key issues such as the environment, the deficit spending is huge and we're going to take years to recover from. The War in Iraq I think we're out of alignment with our allies.

6. Our old school "can do" Republicans have had enough
The far right has been alienating and marinalizing them for 10 years now. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if people like Norma Paulus and even Dave Frohnmeyer are voting for Kerry this year.

7. I heard two republicans on TV on CSPAN and they mentioned
the neocons and the mess we made in Iraq...another republican on Charlie Rose said that some others are saying what the pentagon did wrong was tantamount to CRIMINAL negligence.

They don't like him anymore than we do.
