After a Script Tweak, the Twins Are Back on Track

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 -- By Wednesday, the Bush girls had toned down their sister act.

Wearing tight jeans and their signature trendy tops, they were back at the Madison Square Garden podium where the night before they had giggled their way through a sometimes risque introduction for their father.

Now they were going to introduce Andy Card, the president's chief of staff, before a few hundred young Republicans attending a youth session. Jenna started out safely with a baseball anecdote from the days when her father owned the Texas Rangers.

"One Labor Day, when the temperature was 108 degrees, I was the only family member crazy enough to accompany my dad to the stadium," said Jenna. "After hours of complaining about the heat, I desperately tried to embarrass him out. I covered myself from head to toe in wet paper towels, hoping he would finally take me home. But we stayed to the end. Dad always supports his team to the very last pitch," and here she paused.

The audience applauded politely. The twins were back on message.

2. Regarding their performance:
Who knows what they were thinking? Calls for comment to campaign officials, the twins' spokeswoman, the first lady's press secretary and Republican National Committee officials went unreturned Wednesday. The remarks were written by Karen Hughes, a campaign aide told the Associated Press. And they were vetted by more than a dozen staffers, another campaign official said.

3. These are the children who actually believe they are better than the....
rest of us. Their speeches at this convention shows that... they really think they are entitled and above us all. Chelsea Clinton would never make such a speech as Jeena Bush because Chelsea has a brain that still works.

7. Could they have been having a few drinks
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 02:19 AM by goclark
before their he-he ha-ha speech last night?
I was just wondering.

There behavior reminded me of the way drunk teens act when they get into the liquor cabinet.

16. Hey, Veep Dickles thinks *his* daughter is entitled to special treatment
...but the rest of America's gay citizens can fend for themselves against whatever loathesome, discriminatory practices the theocrats can dream up if an FMA ever passes. (Not that I think it ever will, but still.)

I've seen some kids left out in 108 degree weather. It's not a pretty sight. What a complete ass. If it hadn't been George Bush, DFS would have been paying a call to that family.

24. You might be on to something.
If ever there was a "Springer family" confrontation in the making, it would be the chimp clan. The old crow "Gamie", the twin bimbettes and their walking-advertisement-for-prozac mother, and their shit-for-brains sneak-a-drink "dad" -- all blaming each other for how completely screwed up they are. I'd pay to watch them come unglued.

26. Indeed. Their "fashion sense" reminds me ...
... of trichinosis-laden pork sausage. Their physical condition betrays self-indulgence, indolence, and sloth - truly 'representative' of the dirt belt, imho. Nowhere could it be more stark than at the Olympics - where the photo-ops were correspondingly rare.

10. I thought that they were totally embarrassing last night
Superficial and silly and frivolous. A complete waste of time. A sharp contrast to the Kerry daughters and Cate Edwards, who not only had something to say, but took the occasion seriously and conducted themselves with a certain amount of grace and decorum.

15. Last night on Air America, Sam Seder on the MJR,
after being escorted out of Madison Square Garden by Secret Service men because he was holding up a sign asking to speak to a gay republican, told the audience that he overheard Bob Novak telling someone that letting them two speak was the worst mistake they could have made at this convention. What a hoot!! As if we didn't already know that.

21. Jenna and Barbara are the same age as John Edwards'
daughter. But it's so obvious that Cate Edwards loves and respects her mother. The same is true for the Kerry, Gore, and Clinton daughters.

Jenna and Barbara are just spoiled brats raised by incompetent parents.

22. about their tuesday night performance....
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 10:35 AM by praeclarus
... as distasteful as it was, I seriously doubt
they wrote that crap themselves. They were just
reading the script.

The indignation should be directed to whoever
wrote it and whoever approved it. Add whoever
dreamed up the idea of "using" them in the first
place.

edit: just a general comment, not replying directly
to post #21. sorry.

31. That's the point
It was obvious to me that the Kerry and Edwards daughters did a lot of the writing for their speeches.

Cate Edwards is about the same age as the Bush daughters. One of the Bush twins has a degree from Yale.

I would expect the twins to be able to do some of their own writing. I would also expect the twins to take responsibility for what they said in the speeches.

But then, their father never takes responsiblity for any of his mistakes.

29. Why are they always referred to as whining about something?
Wow, they are a bunch of little spoiled brats. To some up some press reports over the The pool at the Pig Farm: wanted by whining twins. Father runs for pres: opposed by whining twins. Car when they're teens: whined for their own so they wouldn't have to share. Accompany father to baseball park: whine to go home.

I'm not impressed.

No one can tell me that these twits actual "EARNED" a college degree. I'm sorry but age says that they are no longer children but their immature behavior is the age of a bunch of 13 year olds.

34. just goes to show us again
that a so-called "good" school will pass anyone through if they have powerful parents. After watching these 2 snots, I can't believe either college would have passed them through if their last name weren't Bush. It is discouraging watching their antics and knowing there were mature, hard-working but poor kids who could have taken their spots in these schools. (Just their their father)
