U.S. Defense sec Rumsfeld: There is a significant terrorist threat Latin A
Threats to Venezuela ala 'you're either with us or against us'.

<clips>

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Wednesday, US can't ignore terror threat in Latin America, there also is a significant terrorist threat in Central and South America, reported AP.

Terrorists in this region are mixed with drug traffickers and other criminals, he said, making them difficult to distinguish.

"In this region we know there are terrorists, there are hostage-takers, there are drug traffickers," he said. "Sometimes it's the same people doing all three things. And it poses a very serious threat." Rumsfeld told about 100 U.S. troops in a remote air base in a Honduras, according to AP.

In Bogota, after a visit by Richard Myers, chairman of the Pentagon joint chiefs, last week. Rumsfeld announced that President George W. Bush had approved plans to resume US-Colombian drug - guerrilla surveillance flights over colombian territory.

1. Read "Whoa! There is oil in South America"
Who will we not piss off?

I mean, if a terrorist attack happened tomorrow, would you know who did it? Would you even have a clue? Al Qaeda would be foremost, but you can no longer be sure. We have pissed off everyone.

God help us.

14. Latin America (i.e. Colombia, Venezuela etc.) is (are) Swing Producers
in the larger context of overall Global Oil Production. Venezuela is the 4th/5th largest exporter of crude oil of all of the OPEC member states and one of the top-tier suppliers to the United States. Colombia is also a major supplier of petroleum to the United States as well. I know, you are growing tired of my predictable rant, but Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Bush and the rest of this filthy administration know with the spectre of the impending Global Oil crisis staring them right in the face that it is imperative for the United States to gain full control of all of the remaining oil reserves to ensure its geostrategic primacy.

Their imperial ambitions require an army, air force, and navy that has ready access to high quality sources of petroleum.

These bastards aren't wasting anytime are they?

2. Yes. We must not let those people elect whomever they please.
Hugo Chavez doesn't want to sell us his oil, and he won't bend over when we tell him to. Who do those people think they are? That's our oil, we deserve it, and they don't. If it wasnt' for us, they wouldn't even have a McDonalds or a Planet Hollywood.

3. There's a significant threat
There's a significant threat in the US. What is the Bush so-called administration doing about that? Who is the anthrax killer? What will happen when the whole world hates us and they want our oil? How will we feel?

5. The significant threat in Miami never gets a nod from the Bushies
In fact they continue to ignore and condone ex-Cuban terrorists and their actions. A number of terrorists seem to get front row seats or seats on the stage with the Weasel of the WH whenever he speaks there, and brother Jebbie lobbied long and hard for Poppy to pardon the most notorious terrorist, Orlando Bosch Avila, even though Dr. Death Avila was refused entry by scores of countries around the world. Cuba was willing to take him, but of course Uncle Sam would not comply.

4. Latin America?
Probably wants to go down there and shoot them all and take the oil.

Dan Quayle went there once and was sorry to the people he never learned Latin.

Nixon went there once and got stoned.

8. The real threat to Venezuela is the US and those the US backs.
Isn't it interesting that since we can't get the oil flowing in Iraq that we will now hype terrorism in S. America?

9. Nothing new here. Just another part of the plan.
The Reich Wing began this Bushshit in October of 2002.
Hyde Urges Bush to Help Oust Venezuelan President

Warning of the formation of a potential "Axis of Evil" in the Americas, an influential lawmaker has called on President George W. Bush to support the ouster of left-wing Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

Just days before Brazilians elected radical populist Lula da Silva as their president on Oct. 27, House International Relations Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) sent President Bush a powerfully phrased letter warning that a triumvirate of political extremists leading economic powerhouse Brazil, oil giant Venezuela and the terrorist-sponsoring regime of Cuba constitute an emerging "Axis of Evil" that the United States must stop.

They also are laying the groundwork for moving against Cuba because of its WMD. I am weary of world domination.

10. sigh, is kidnapping terrorism now?
There is significant risk of kidnapping, especially if you are an oil industry executive, in Colombia or Ecuador. Innocent people like birdwatchers have occasionally been victimized. This is an economic crime and has been going on for a decade to no one's great alarm except the victims and their families. I have not heard of any hazard of traveling to Venezuela or Trinidad & Tobago, both beautiful oil rich countries. But I'm sure if he tries, Cheney can stir up hate everywhere against innocent victims. He doesn't care since he is safe in his hole. The people who are harmed are the people who want to promote the environment and eco-tourism and of course very rarely the tourists themselves. Ultimately the birds and wildlife will be harmed if people are afraid to visit and the only alternative is maximum exploitation of fossil fuel reserves...if the Americas were at peace, there could be a balance between beauty and oil. We have so many ideals in common...

You know what? In Florida, there are terrorists, there are hostage takers, there are drug traffickers. We should get the damn log out of our own eye.

Oh well...preaching to the choir...
