Kerry: Pull Troops From Iraq in 4 Years
CANONSBURG, Pa. -- Democrat John Kerry, on a Labor Day tour of Midwestern states where polls show the presidential race virtually tied, told voters he would try to pull out troops in Iraq within four years.

"We want those troops home, and my goal would be to try to get them home in my first term," Kerry said, speaking to a fellow Vietnam War veteran in the audience of his campaign event.

Faulting Bush on almost every aspect of his move toward war, Kerry said the United States is carrying the burden in casualties and cost. He called the president's coalition "the phoniest thing I ever heard."

Unless the Iraqis win sooner.

2. headline sort of misleading
"in my first term" could mean in a year.

Pat Buchanan advocates a "strategic withdrawal" and I guess this might be what Kerry also plans.

3. And before anyone starts bitching and panicking....
He is trying to make a reasonable assessment as opposed to Bush's "indefinite" occupation of Iraq.

4. I'd speed that up by about 3 1/2 years, BUT
At least Kerry would get us out period. Baby Bush would keep us there forever.

Though IMO within 18 months will be more to my liking and also a declaration that no US military bases in Iraq will even be more welcomed.

7. I never heard that
Citing certain conditions, he did say something about beginning to draw down six months in- Bush hacked it up in repeating it.

9. How many more will die in 4 years...
I'm sorry I can not take hearing this. This is unbelievable to hear...it should be 4 months at most. Why are we still there? Let the puppet regime take it over and get our troops out...NOW. We should be marching on the white house NOW. 4 years is just totally depressing to hear.
