US prepared to send more troops to Iraq if commanders ask for them: Rumsfe
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030825/pl_afp/iraq_us_forces&cid=1521&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States will send more troops to Iraq "in a minute" if the top US commander in the region asks for them, but so far General John Abizaid has not, US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said.

Rumsfeld's comments came amid growing criticism that the US force there is not large enough to bring the country under control and to end a surge of attacks and bombings by anti-US forces.

"If we get the recommendation from the combatant commander that he needs more forces, he will have it," he told reporters after a "town hall" meeting with troops at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

Rumsfeld said US force levels were under continuous review, leaving open the possibility of increases in US force levels.

1. Give me a break
Here's the Rumsfield math:
Ask for new troops, you'll get them, but don't ever expect another promotion.
Don't ask for new troops, you'll get that next promotion.

5. I agree. This is such bullshot being fed to the media but the disgraceful
fact is the media is taking it! (I'm not sure if the media is stuffing it down their mouths' or shoving it up their asses?)

Who in America actually believes this kind of request/debate takes place in a press conference? Like Rumsfeld doesn't know within micro-seconds exactly what/when/where/how much... is needed in Iraq.

Like the generals discuss it out in press conference, bounce it off a few trusted average Joe Americans and then give Rumsfuk their final request.

It's no wonder we are where we are with such an
1. Incompetent Press
2. Secret GOP/NSA Press

2. We're pleading to every country under the son to send troops
to Iraq and we'll even pay for it but don't interpret that as a signal that we need more troops.

4. I'm sure Rummie told Gen. John Abizaid he had better not
ask for additional troops if he wants to keep his job and career.

6. what an S.O.B. . .
hopefully this will add to * regime's downfall, the hubris of sticking to their original under-estimates, with all indications being they need more troops, but to 'fix' it politically w/in the pentagon that you are OUT if you make such requests

Right dr. strangeRUM . . . we'll just wait 'til that request comes through from the field . . .

9. ABC evening news showed a clip
of Rummy the Dummy saying "the (p)Resident and the Secretary of Defense" have assured the commanding officers..."

It made me very uncomfortable to watch someone refer to himself in the third person -

why did he not say the "(p)Resident and I have"....

??????

10. I have a SIL who used to refer to herself
in the third person. She doesn't do it anymore, because she received the help & medication she needs, & no longer has psychotic breaks.

12. What a bunch of freaking liars
there are NO troops to send....even if they were honest and admitted they needed them.

They have KUTUSA's in Iraq for crying out loud. That's how desperate the situation is....

They are hurting so bad for soldiers, they aren't even medivacing the sick ones they have...they are trying to treat them in country without proper medicines and equipment.

They send 3...that's THREE...troops to "arrest" 500...thats FIVE-HUNDRED...because there are NOT ENOUGH soldiers in Iraq for the "job" those braindead fucks in DC want them to do.
