CNN: Bush says he's 'not a gadget guy'
<http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/08/25/techie.president.ap/index.html>

Bush says he's 'not a gadget guy'
President counts on aides for tech connection

He's not one of these who has to have the latest and greatest model.
-- Dan Bartlett, presidential confidant

WASHINGTON (AP) -- No pager or PDA hangs off his belt and there's no cell phone in his suit pocket.

President Bush, like many world leaders and business titans, relies on aides to carry the high-tech gizmos that are a staple of modern life. That's just fine by Bush, described as intrigued by what technology can do but not necessarily with the gadgets themselves.

=== Hold your nose when reading this putrid mediawhore fluff piece intended (I guess) to convince the public that Bush is NOT a dumbass with little-to-no intellectual interests ===

Pathetic.

JB

1. He's no Al Gore....
And they even say so...

""He's no Al Gore," said one Bush aide, comparing his boss to the former vice president known for his love of high-tech gadgetry, "but he's very serious about having all this stuff work." "

31. Captain Shit-for-Brains is what were talking about. I just don't believe
any moral journalists could write so many positives things about a Bush? It's impossible thus we know our media is controlled by someone, NSA, FBI, Power Elite, Foreign Gov., Aliens, Satan...? take your pick but they're certainly not moral and objective.

I remember an online Newsweek or Time report/reporter publishing in 2000, 'I get the impression the last book he read was Shoot The Moon when the twins were three.' This is darn near an exact quote. They didn't archive back then. A Toon for anyone who can find that report. I'm 100%

Another from Newsweek or Time on Texas Ranger management position; 'He has nothing to do with management he's more like Team Politician.'

10. It's a dumb ploy, if you ask me
Aren't there over 115 million cell phone users in the US? It seems like everyone's got one. Hell, I got one and I hate them!

And most people use computers, either at their homes or on the job. Why would they want to seperate him from things that most people use? If this is indeed a plan for re-selection, it will only make him look out-of-touch, like Poppy.

16. Oh, so very true...
People wonder why Clark's being first in his class at West Point isn't such a huge deal; that'll work against him.

All you need to understand why a fair number of people like Junior is that "Forrest Gump" won Best Picture and Reagan was handily elected twice. Just listen to any DJ for a few minutes and you'll hear the obligatory "well, of course, I don't understand that..."

Basically, America has a "love me because I'm unthreatening" fixation and an anti-intellectualism that is laughable when analyzed: those same people are saying that they're better people for not claiming to be better people. No wonder so many hate the French: they've contributed so much to culture that any colonial bumpkin must feel mortified in comparison. The French also don't have this "false commonness" posturing as part of their mindset.

Jimmy Carter actively hid his intelligence and advanced degree.

That's why people should lay off of insulting his intelligence; that just makes the average dunderhead love him even more: he's their champion, the "c" student who made it. Hammer on his lies, greed and pure meanness; those are things most folk won't abide.

But I'm optimistic, and I think it will backfire. Bush and his handlers insult the intelligence of every voter. Note that they didn't point out that the idiot boy king managed to fall off a Segway when even Babs could pull it off gracefully. Bah.

13. Junior also "doesn't do nuance" and "isn't a detail guy"
It used to be said about the British Royal Family that "they did nothing, but did it very well."

Apparently their distant inbred American cousin doesn't do much either; the difference is that he does it badly.

Keep hammering on him; the only thing he's got on his side is the "personality" issue, and we know what a whopper that is...

14. Journalism school: the new corporate vomitorium
The piece is a small triumph of the art. Its feat is to enfold two ads into one story: one for the essentialness of consumerism, the other for the President as Glorious Leader. You could call these the two missions of US journalism.

For students of US propaganda, the really cool technical achievement here is watching the unnamed Associated Press drone play one prong of the narrative off the other. Part One: electronics products rock, just look at their amazing variety and splendor, ooooooh! Part Two: Bush resists these mere physical objects because he is a man of high and preternatural purpose, a direct and engaged leader who will not brook having his massive human energies blunted by gizmos. Would Christ bother with an iPod?

Along the way there's a sneer at Gore, a stand-at-attention reference to 9-11, a suggestion that public access to presidential records (in this case email) is onerous, a celebration of tech in the service of our holy wars, and the now-habitual linking of our sports with patriotism. Baseball games on Air Force one--imagine! War straight from the battlefield to Bush's own private screen--fucking cool!

Brilliant propaganda. Terrific. Journalism students, mark this article; it's what you'll be expected to write in a few years' time...

It moved on the AP wire as an advance piece for release "Monday or later."

And, I assure you, every last person in the newsroom who read it was either laughing out loud or just shaking their head in disbelief.

Yes, I too fear that this is the future of journalism in America -- but at least some of us in the newsrooms aren't going to go down without a fight.

(This was the day after the Canadians were killed in that bombing incident in Afghanistan ... took a while to get the WH to comment ... Bush evidently didn't think it was important enough to spoil his entertainment.)

"President Bush got behind the wheel of a sports car Friday, dropped it into reverse and executed an escape maneuver during a tour of the
Secret Service training center.

Under the watchful eyes of Secret Service experts, according to his spokesman, Bush backed a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro down a practice track and spun 180 degrees

(snip)

"Bush also fired several guns during his visit to the unmarked, 493-acre complex outside Washington."

51. A True Non-Linear Thinker, that Chimp
I think it's interesting to note that, on a continuum, there's resemblences of the Selected and the madness of Ted Kaczynski - Try changing the "Left" to "Right" in the manifesto? Could B*&Co. be considered a derivitive insane group who believes technological advances (gadgets)are for the peasants cause the "Lord" doesn't need them except as tools of control?

Does he have any cognitive skills at all? Never mind...I already know the answer.

(verbal blow job) :puke:

They don't mention he fell of the Sedgway - which everyone in the country knows about. Love the picture of Babs in her extraordinarily unattractive memere dress.

56. Add it all up: clueless and pampered
I notice the Segway mention doesn't refer to his inability to stay on the thing.

So, everyone around Bush takes care of his needs. We knew that.

He likes gizmos that enable him to pursue his hobbies like fishing. Figures.

He gets annoyed when gizmos fail. We've heard about the ringing cell phones pissing him off.

But he "flew" onto the aircraft carrier, right? R-i-i-i-ght.

Apparently, he does like the chain saw (see Buzzflash's link today about Bush cutting cedar almost every day at the farm).

I wonder if he can handle the flusher on the toilet? Maybe an aide takes care of that, too.

No, he's no Al Gore.

57. How unmanly of him
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 11:19 AM by yellowcanine
They are not telling us anything. When we saw those photos of him wrestling with the Segway scooter and losing we knew he wasn't a "gadget guy". Of course he can't ride a horse either, even though he owns a "ranch". So what can he do? Eat pretzels? Oh, actually he can't do that either.

60. Follows in his Dad's footsteps
I seem to remember that George Senior was amazed with the bar code scanners in grocery stores a decade ago. Of course this is coming from a guy that chokes on pretzels and falls off his couch...those dogs must have been howling....Stupid Human Tricks!

72. Why does the web begin with a "W"?
Remember that piece of shit line he spewed during his campaign? Called Al Gore an 8-track player in an MP3 world, he did.

HEY GEORGE W. BUSH, FUCK YOU AND THAT SUPREME COURT DECISION YOU RODE IN ON!!!

Remember his daddy he didn't know what a bar code scanner was when he was in a grocery store. So why should W know anything about gadgets?
