Conservatives urge P&G boycott (too gay friendly)
http://money.cnn.com/2004/09/17/news/fortune500/pg_gay_rights/

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Conservative Christian groups are urging a boycott of two of consumer product maker Procter & Gamble's key products, charging the company is aligning itself with gay rights groups, according to a published report.

The New York Times said Friday that James Dobson of Focus on the Family and the Rev. Donald Wildmon of the American Family Association are angry at P&G for a statement on the company's internal Web site opposing an anti-gay rights statute in its hometown of Cincinnati. The law exempts gays and lesbians from special civil rights protection.

The two influential conservatives charge that by opposing the Cincinnati statute, the company is joining a push to allow same-sex marriage. They are urging supporters to boycott Crest toothpaste and Tide laundry detergent.

"For Procter & Gamble to align itself with radical groups committed to redefining marriage in our country is an affront to its customers," Dobson told the paper.

2. Well, for me there is some good news...
... I've been a "Crest kid" all my life, and generally buy Tide unless another brand is on sale for a buck or more less. Think I'll write them a letter, saying I'm a long-time customer and appreciate their stance in defense of fairness. :)

37. Why is Cincinnati so conservative?
I grew up in Cincinnati in the 1960-70s but Ive lived in L.A.thereafter.
I teach economics summer sessions at NKU in the summer.

At the end of every summer, I'm alway ready to leave.

Growing up, I just don't remember it being so conservative: Ronald Reagan Freeway -- L.A. doesn't have that and Reagan was citizen of L.A.

I've even seen custom-made Gulf War vet license plates in Cincinnati.
Of all the millions of cars I've seen in L.A. I've 'neva' seen that one!

What happened?

Ed should have first hand knowledge of the "gay" lifestyle.

In fact he knows so much he's not running for re-election in his heavily reactionary Republican Virginia Beach-centered Congressional District.

I'm already a user of Crest and Tide products.

Crest's new Citrus Breeze (orange) toothpaste is great, especially when followed up by the Citrus Listerine (not a P&G product).

I'm also a regular user of Tide HE detergents in my front-loading washer/dryer combo.

Take that you bastards at FOF and AFA. Dobson and Wildmon, rot in the hell that you're creating for yourselves!

26. Yup
And those are just the North American products. There are even more globally.

I've worked on advertising for about 16 of their products and can attest that P&G Headquarters is the most secure facility I have ever been. If they had handled RNC security, no protester would have made it into MSQ.

BTW, they took the moon 'n stars logo off their products - the big wusses - but didn't remove the 12-foot-tall relief of it it that graces the elevator banks in their main building.

27. These christianist hate groups never stop persecuting innocent people.
They are the same people that, historically, murdered everyone that did not believe the same way that they do. Burning heretics at the stake. These people use religion for profit, and their religion is based on hatred and intolerance. Their religion has absolutely nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus.

Believe me, if these people could get away with killing gays, and anyone else that does not agree with them, they'd be out there zealously hunting them down and lynching them right at this moment.

28. How about buy products you like
These nitwits are making a mockery out of free-market economics. I was always taught (I am an Economics major) that companies “won” in the market by producing the best product at the most competitive price.

We are slowly getting to the point where ANY program, song, musician, movie, tv show that in anyway deviates from a right-wing perspective will be protested and shutdown no matter the quality of song, musician, movie, tv show. This is an affront to market economics.

What is bought and sold by the consumers should be valued based on the quality of the product not some covert political agenda. These people are gross.

the trains leave to take all of the fags to camps to be slaughtered. That would please the right greatly. I wish they would be honest about their ultimate goal and not pussyfoot around it. But, the hallmark of the right is lying.

I fear for the direction our country is heading. The GOP is getting too fast and loose with it's anti-family bigotry. We have made so many advances in being treated as equals, and Bush and his asshole cronies come along and try to destroy every step forward. It's shameful. Either they will win out and get their way and get to write history as the GOP sees fit, or history will look back on this time and declare the GOP as immoral, and position them alongside the segregationists and the KKK.

OK, they're an EVIL mega-corporation, but to have to spend time fending off this bullshit.

Seems like every few years the Fundies decide to go after P&G. Last time I remember, it was because of their "moon" trademark, an OCCULT symbol that had "666" hidden in it! P&G supports the Church of Satan!(gasp!)

All bullshit. Wonder how much Lever Bros gives these nut-jobs to start this shit?

These hateful crackpots use the gay community for one purpose and one purpose only: to line their pockets with the money of their often destitute followers.

I'm sure they'll both send out fundraising letters soon trumpeting their oh-so-scary boycott of P&G and shaking people down for more money for their Krazy Kristian Krusades agin' homosexuals. They do it all the time.

If Jesus ever does return, these types will be the first ones he'll drive from the temple.

38. Cincinnati actually petitioned for the Olympic Games
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 03:58 PM by Barkley
Cincinnati wants to be a 'big city' but the mentality of the people is astounding.

Its hard for P&G and other Cincinnati firms like Krogers to recruit qualified people to come live there with Title XII which actually permits discrimination based on SEXUAL ORIENTATION of any kind: straight, gay, bi etc.

The gay boycott has cost the city millions in lost conventions.

With a pop. of only 325,000, cheap housing and essentially only two racial groups Cincinnati should be a much better place to live.

But Cincinnati has all the problems of a 'big city' (e.g. riots, racism, inequality, traffic congestion, crime, pollution, police brutality, civic corruption, poor public schools etc) and few of the advantages: ranked by Forbs Magazine 39th out of 40 for singles.
