'Sealand's grounding was a horrible mistake'
The first officer made a mistake. The cause of the grounding of the container ship Sealand Express is as simple and horrible as that, said Captain Bill Dernier of the South African Maritime Safety Authority.

When the Sealand Express began dragging her anchor and drifting towards a sandbar off Sunset Beach in a storm about 4am last Tuesday, the ship's first officer, who was officer of the watch, did not appreciate the danger his ship was headed for, Dernier said.

The vessel tracking system operators at Port Control had warned the ship's watchkeepers their vessel was dragging her anchor.

This is the American registered ship carrying uranium, oil, and chemicals. I'm assuming the crew is American? They must have been drunk or filled with Repuke arrogance.

1. Gee. Uranium, petroleum, and hazardous materials.
Sounds like a GOP fund-raiser. From the article:

"A chemist from Smit's head office in Rotterdam has also arrived in Cape Town to analyse the chemicals in 33 hazardous materials (hazmat) containers aboard the ship and to work out the correct procedures for dealing with it."

2. Speaking of arrogance...
Your comment would seem to indicate that you are not a mariner. Otherwise you would know that the causal factors for a ship's grounding are not limited to alcohol or party affiliation. But then again, if you perform your job duties flawlessly at all times, without the slightest mistake of any kind, I can see how you could come to such a conclusion.

4. hello -- this accident
is pretty much the fault of the people aboard. wouldn't you be extremely cautious if you were carrying a cargo like that? it seems to me that some dumb things happened hear -- might remind you of the valdez -- another one of those ''it's just an accident'' scenarios you allude to.

You guys are so funny! Better get a new PapaRepuke ID and go back undercover for awhile then you can pop out and make another intelligent post.

The crew was dragging their anchor near shore in a storm and they were warned by the official responsible authority in the area. This should result in criminal charges.

Repukelican arrogance is well documented by the few honest journalists left. But why would we need a journalist to tell us that? It's obvious. For a ship to drag its anchor like this under these conditions leaves the defense of; criminal negligence, arrogance, or insanity. All which I might add are traits of the Chimp Adm.
