Iraq militants parade 15 captive guardsmen, give 48-hour ultimatum
DOHA (AFP) - An Iraqi militant group paraded 15 captive national guardsmen in video footage aired by Al-Jazeera television with a threat to execute them in 48 hours if a Shiite radical militia commander is not released.

Calling itself the Mohammed bin Abdullah Brigade, the group demanded the immediate release of Hazem al-Araji, representative of Shiite radical leader Moqtada Sadr for the Baghdad pilgrimage district of Kadhimiya, the television reported.

Another Sadr aide in the Iraqi capital denied his movement had any connection to the kidnappers.

The hostage-takers "threatened to kill the captive national guardsmen if Araji is not freed in 48 hours," Al-Jazeera said.

7. Iragi National Guard
Here's a similar story from the AP, claiming the total was 25 and that the people kidnapped are Iraqis.

19. No...here is the Al Jazeera article...Iraqi National Guard, not U.S.....
Al-Sadr forces seize 18 soldiers
<http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/8DE8DA42-B001-4EDB-BB3C-06D609654905.htm>

Excerpt:

"A previously unknown group has threatened to kill 18 captured Iraqi soldiers if authorities do not release an aide to Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr within 48 hours.

On Sunday, Aljazeera aired a video of masked gunmen standing near a group of uniformed men it said were members of Iraq's National Guard. The tape also showed what appeared to be their military identification papers."

It seems to me that AFP deliberately reported the story in a misleading way, and that Yahoo was more than willing to continue the charade. JMHO.

6. please amend the headline somehow...
...so DU-ers don't think these are American guardsmen and have a heart attack.

(Not that it isn't a horrible story for Iraqis)

9. Bush doesn't care.
When are they going to learn. Bush's don't care. If they did, they'd have never invaded. This will only play into Bush's hand. He will escalate. Remember, Little Boy Bush has a bomb.

When to we march on the White House, people? When are Americans going to demand this regime leave? If not November 2nd, then when? How many must die, in Bush's name? We aren't getting any answers. They have turned the white house press corp into stenographers. We don't have voices anymore.

We're in pain, and sooner or later, it must end. I suppose the soldiers could all go AWOL. That would end it. Just a thought.

20. Bush nothing, 50% of Americans don't care.
Now if they got their mits on about 10 Americans and threatened to behead them if the US voted for bushco in November, that would be appalling, but I suspect titillating to the average Joe/Jane Sixpack. Sort of like a reality TV/Voting format, that "we" could relate to broadcast on Al Jazeera. Think of the ratings!!!

Iraq: 25 soldiers face death
Cairo - A videotape showing several Arab men seated at gunpoint, purportedly kidnapped Iraqi soldiers, aired on an Arabic television station on Sunday, and the announcer said they were threatened with death unless a detained Shi'ite leader is freed within 48 hours.

The video was from a group calling itself the Brigades of Mohammed bin Abdullah and claimed to have 25 captive members of the Iraqi National Guard, according to Al-Jazeera television, which obtained a copy of it.

The brief video clip aired by the station showed men in military dress sitting on the floor, with men standing behind them pointing guns to their heads. Most of the hostages had their heads bowed, but they were not blindfolded and appeared uninjured.

15. I got an idea, why don't we offer the Bush administration,
in exchange for all hostages being held. They can have a high CARB diet of Cheney, Ashcroft, Rice, and Bush.

Freedom to kill whoever the fuck we want, when we want, for whatever reason we can think of (but it has to not mention oil), and our freedom to get away with it. Or can we? bushco seems to think so.
