Iraq's PM Says Saddam Depressed, Begs for Mercy
Snip

CAIRO (Reuters) - Deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is depressed and has begged the Iraqi government for mercy, Iraq's Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said in an interview published Monday. "He is distraught and depressed," Allawi said of Saddam, the man who was Iraq's president for 24 years and is awaiting trial for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

"Saddam and his colleagues are not the giants that the media sometimes talks about. Saddam sent us an oral message in which he begged for mercy. He said that they were working in the public interest and did not mean any harm," Allawi said in an interview with the pan Arab al-Hayat newspaper.

He also said he had survived four assassination attempts since his interim government came to power in June, the last just five days ago when his guards became suspicious of a car outside Baghdad's Green Zone compound housing the government and the U.S. and other embassies.

The car then blew up and a battle between gunmen and his guards ensued. Two non-Iraqi Arabs were arrested, he said. Allawi would not give their nationality, but said they belonged to Islamist militant groups.

1. Next:
They'll say he committed suicide as he couldn't face a trial...

Of course this would conveniently hide info on how much he got from the West during the 80s

Yeah, I could see "Saddam commits suicide, shot himself three times in the head. From behind. With a rifle."

3. Obviously his sons had more courage to fight until the death than
he does. Of course, after their corpses were shown over and over and over, one could only conclude that when they were killed, it was a little bit of over kill involved in taking their lives. Did they have one place on their body that did not have a bullet? Please do not mistake my comments for compassion for Saddam and his sons because it is not meant to be at all.

What compassion did Saddam show the people he tortured, poisoned, gassed? Let's just give him the same kind of compassion he gave to others. Sounds fair to me.

5. Why should Iraq give him mercy??
Granted, I don't think waging war was worth it, but isn't it a bit late for this guy to beg for mercy? Idiot.

8. I saw this liar on news shows. He kept speaking in metric measurements
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 10:25 AM by dArKeR
Aren't the only two places he's grown up, lived, worked... are the only two places left in the world that use the old Standard system? So why is he using metric when he speaks?

He sure is a good immoral Repuke! You can tell by his vocabulary that he blames the UN and the world for the situation in Iraq because they don't want any part of it. Just forget about everything America has done wrong. Incredible immoral liars and NOT ONE AMERICAN MEDIA WHORE QUESTIONS him!

He also said Saddam was coming to attack America, the UK...

As did Kissinger say this on The News Hour and no one questions it.

10. How long before Bush tries out a variation of his "Karla Faye Tucker"...
impersonation directed at Saddam Hussein?

Saddam sent us an oral message in which he begged for mercy.

He seems to get his jollies mimicking people who are begging for mercy. I wonder if he's already working on it...

13. Just look at Poodle these days
Poodle and shrub when he takes his dive in November.

Then you can put both of them in the pokey with Saddam for warcrimes as well... not to mention war profiteering... torture... breach of the Geneva Convention... poor planning...

I really don't think they want peace in Iraq... that would end their reason for being... and possible enable the throwing out of the corporations they have in there like a tick on a hound.

I pity the fool who believes that Tony and shrub have improved situations in the world with their shotgun foreign policy... all they have done is increased anti-western sentiment 1000 fold... and that is a fact that can be checked.

17. Acc. to Seymour Hersh (on Middle East in Focus yesterday)
Saddam actually set up the infrastructure of the current guerilla war months before the invasion by U.S. troops began. Hersh got this info from a former Iraqi general whom he interviewed in Syria for "Chain of Command."

It has been widely reported (altho I can't find links right now) that Saddam and his generals had closely studied the Vietnam War for clues on how and when to bring the fight to the U.S. Taken together, these reports suggest that the guerilla war being fought now was consciously chosen by Saddam and his generals. We fought the war we wanted to fight (and "won" it). Now they are fighting the war they wnated to fight (and we know who's winning this one).

our own actions around the world. This is an amazing bit of info.. I am going to have to have Seymour's book... this cinches it. Thanks for that tidbit...

22. What I really finding extremely interesting and shocking are the
excerpts from Crossing the Rubicon by Michael Ruppert. If you haven't read any of it.. I suggest you see if there are excerpts on his site.. the ones I have read were posted here... my Gawd what a story.... you had better be sitting down if you get to it.... this link doesn't give the excerpt I have called Rub_War.pdf, but someone here probably knows where the link is for it or can search for it here.... enjoy.

Remember when Abu Abbas died in US custody in Iraq, "of apparent natural causes"?

23. OK, so once you apply the de-spin filter....
what I get is that a defiant Saddam Hussein is spitting and flinging shit at anyone who walks past his cell. Wonder if he's latched on to the trick of stuffing his pillow into the toilet and flushing till it rains downstairs?

Of COURSE the Murkan RW press is gonna say he's trying to cut his wrists with the plastic knife from his MRE...DUH!!!!
