Bush rally access limited, some say
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 07:04 AM by MaineDem
Today is the last day to get tickets for President Bush's Thursday campaign rally in Bangor.

The campaign says thousands of free tickets already have been distributed to anyone who has asked, but Democrats said Tuesday they are being banned from the event.

...

"I told them, 'I have to be honest with you. I am a Kerry supporter and I am volunteering for Kerry, but I have never had the opportunity to see President Bush in person . . . and I really do want to have an opportunity to hear him in person and hear what he has to say," she said.

She said she was told that only undecided voters and supporters of the president would receive tickets.

I know of people who tried to get tickets like the woman quoted above. In some cases the Bush/Cheney people were very rude. No matter what the B/C campaign heads are saying, they ARE denying tickets to non-supporters.

Edited to add: That headline pisses me off! "Some say"? How very...I don't know, what's the right word?...condescending? (Nahh, that's not the right one.) Misleading? That's it!!!

1. "Some say"? Interesting.
Some say that the * folks are the most fu**ed up crew in history! Some say that Satan is actually worse, but not by much.

Hmmm. this "some say" business is interesting!

2. This happened in my town.
It was an embarassment. I wanted to go, wear my Kerry badge and just listen. If people wanted to ask me questions they could. After all, he is a sitting president. I have a right to see him, don't I? The Clinton Administration never limited access. Why is gwb such a coward?

If any campaign could have gotten away with this, it should have the Kerry campaign as he is not nationally elected. If this isn't a scandal before the election, it better be afterwards.

13. BUSH IS A COWARD. As sitting president he has no right to deny access.

3. in "OutFoxed" that was the
strawman technique used to discredit any opposing views.

It was amazing to watch the absolute piling on with those words:

"Some say" - this allows an illusion that the speaker is a minority opinion or a questionable source if they disagree with the point of view. On the other side, it is used to put forth bizarre and unreasonable points of view by giving credibility; i.e. "some say that there is no science behind global warming".

Merely a propaganda tool for the use of the mediawhores.

4. I'm glad they publish reporters' email addresses now...
cuz I sent him one. He probably didn't write the headline, but I asked him to pass my message on to whoever did--

"...It is a disgrace that the president of the United States is barring people from his events. He is the supposed to be the president of all the people.
It is a disgrace and I am outraged. And the fact that your headline writer wants to slough it off with a suggestion that this is only what people are "saying", and not that it is a plain fact, does a disservice to truth."

Just adding my voice to what I hope is a rising crescendo to these hacks in what used to be called journalism.

9. oh sure, but they don't publish editor's email addys...
...editors aren't stupid :)

I asked the reporter to pass it on. Then when I got back today I had a response from him. He said he'd passed my concerns to the asst managing editor on the copy desk. Knowing how reporters feel about editors on occasion, I think he was more than happy to.

7. Some say propoganda is as easy as a non-sequitor
The media could analysis the history of Bush appearance and see if what some say happens in other instances.

10. God, people are slow. We've been discussing this ever
since - well, as long as I can remember. Don't people in high places like the news media have computers connected to the internet. Makes you wonder.

12. It would seem easy enough to me.
Sign any forms they put in front of you and pretend to be a BushCo supporter, then disrupt, disrupt, disrupt while there! How hard can that be? The only way they'd really know your intentions is if they were linked into your local board of elections and could check your part affiliation, in which case, I wonder if that's even legal. I'd be interested to know the answer.

15. whatever happened
to the small cameras investigative reporters wore, you know they wore them to shady car dealers, quick loan center, repair service centers..etc. Seems it should be easy enough to get all theses responses on video..then submit them to unbiased news ceters..

hmmmmmmmmm
