Baghdad rocked by second car bomb (Wed. US Convoy)
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=588722§ion=news

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A car bomb has exploded near a U.S. military convoy in Baghdad's Mansour district and there were several casualties, police say.

The blast followed an earlier suicide car bomb attack in Baghdad that killed at least 11 people as scores of men wanting to join Iraq's security forces queued up to photocopy their documents.

Wednesday's first blast destroyed several storefronts and an ice cream stall. Dozens were wounded by shrapnel.

Scores of sandals and shoes lay in pools of blood on the pavement. Iraqis covered burnt flesh lying on the ground with store banners torn down by the explosion

3. And what's happening on Hayfa St
The fierce fighting broke out at 1:00pm Sunday afternoon, local
time, and continued for some time after US troops tried to storm
Hayfa Street under the cover of Apache helicopter gunships that went
ahead firing at any moving target in their path along the street.
US snipers also deployed on the roof of the Saddam Medical Center
and a number of other buildings to cover the attempted US advance.

The US seemed intent upon storming into the Hayfa Street area at
about 11:20pm local time. More than 45 armored vehicles – Abrams
tanks and Bradley armored vehicles closed the street off completely
causing the situation there to grow very tense.

Resistance repulses US attack on Hayfa Street.

In a dispatch posted at 12:45am Monday morning local
time (11:45pm
Mecca time) the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-
Islam reported
that Resistance forces blunted a US assault on Hayfa
Street,
inflicting damage on the attacking Americans in the
processs. The
local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that
the
Resistance pounded the Americans with 82mm mortar
shells, rocket-
propelled grenades, and advanced
SPG9s (Anyone know what an SPG9 is?)

The Resistance also managed to prevent attempts of US
foot soldiers
protected by armor to break into the area. Iraqi
sharpshooters
fired on the advancing Americans with pinpoint accuracy,
killing two
soldiers who were in the van of the American
attack.

So we can't get into an area less than 2800 m from
the Green Zone.

4. this is why the new hardliners wanting to put
increased pressure on the insurgents are NUTS -- the insurgents are without end.
they aren't just one group of people who oppose the u.s. -- it's a whole bunch of different folks at this point.
including people inside allawi's crew.
