Kerry Finds Voice Pressing Bush on `War With No End'
Sept. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry is stepping up his criticism of President George W. Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, seeking to shift the election debate from who can protect the U.S. from terrorists to who can stop a conflict with ``no end in sight.''
Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts, is peppering his daily comments with attacks about Bush living in a ``world of fantasy spin'' on Iraq, even when the subject is domestic policy. In Jacksonville, Florida yesterday, Kerry said the campaign ``entered a new phase'' and then spoke about the war before turning to his plan to provide health care for more Americans.
Bush has an edge in polls, leading with 46 percent support to 43 percent for Kerry in a Sept. 17-19 survey by Zogby International, because he changed the debate to terrorism, according to John Zogby, head of the Utica, New York-based polling firm. On the top five issues mentioned by voters, terrorism is the only one on which Bush outpolls Kerry.
``So long as Senator Kerry engages the president on the war on terrorism, the president wins,'' Zogby said. ...
