Coburn Name-Calling Continues; Cherokees Dismiss Coburn as Radical
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Leaders of the Cherokee Nation are puzzled by U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn, who said that Cherokees “aren’t really Indians” and that Indian treaties are “primitive agreements” during a meeting in Altus, Oklahoma last month.

Coburn seems to be narrowing down the list of Oklahomans that he will serve if elected to the U.S. Senate. He has already panned farmers, “crapheads in Oklahoma City,” and Native Americans appear to be next on his list.

“Listen, I know the tribal issues; I was a congressman where most of the Indians are in this state,” Coburn said. “The problem is, most of them aren’t Indians.”

.......

Coburn also called treaties between the United States and Indian Nations “a joke” and “primitive agreement(s).”

“I mean this is a joke,” Coburn said. “It is one thing for us to keep our obligations to recognize Native Americans, but it’s a totally different thing for us to allow a primitive agreement with the Native Americans to undermine Oklahoma’s future…”

3. The only thing "primitive" is Coburn's mind.
He's the whacko who's calling for the death penalty to doctors who perform abortions. Never mind that he performed abortions himself!

7. A "primitive agreement" that was not kept...
Makes my red blood boil. Being a blue-eyed blonde didn't keep my Cherokee great-great grandmother from being disposessed of her land and mercantile store in North Carolina in 1837, when it was convenient to count her as 'indian', which meant less than human. This was before they marched her ass to Oklahoma (which was supposed to be the American equivalent of Soweto). Degree of blood is a white man's concept anyway. The head is just the same, they broke agreements in the last century because you were too indian. They refuse to live up to their agreements now because you are too white. Coburn is an gnorant "Cheney-ing" prick.who deserves what Custer got.

 :grr: :nuke:

10. Whatta
Asshole

Evey time I look at tribal issues (and other issues)I get so disgusted at politicians. They are knuckle dragging bullies who hire other people to act as their fists and red tape, liars and Pr bullshitters. Every time it' those same old white male rich"christo fascist) hypocrites and their pathetic lap/attack dogs (sometimes women and non-white)saying the same old rhetoric appealing to the same base desires in people that amounts to crime bullying and sickening hypocrisy , I WONDER how on Earth do these sociopath twits get at so much UNDESERVED power if people are as 'free' aware,or enlightened as they say they are?? Are voters THAT ignorant, naive fanatical, superficial and stupid on purpose?
Dammit why do these jerks get power ..is it BECAUSE they are assholes?

13. I think it is because
they tell people what they want to hear. In Ohio, where I live, there is a congressman named Michael Oxley who has done nothing for his district. Absolutely nothing. He doesn't even live in his district and rarely visits. He wins over 60% of the vote every election? Why? Because he tells his constituents what they want to hear. My father used to say that the American people were their own worst enemy.

20. from a resident of Oklahoma
you got that right and I know of at least one who is not voting for him. The difficulty here in OK is that the local media is not really covering these issues. So here in the State Coburn is viewed as a moral, conservative, God-fearing advocate of the ordinary people.

9. Scary thought
He's still gonna get at least 45% of the vote. Every Oklahoman I've ever met has been a kind, decent person of extraordinarily sound and compassionate character. I guess I haven't been meeting a representative sample.

11. I lived in Oklahoma for
about 8 years back in the 80s.

Their politics are the most screwed up of anything that I had ever seen and the people there are really nice. Many friends and some family still there.

When I left OK, I vowed I would never live there again or pay another penny in state taxes to support their nasty ways.

12. Here's the question:
Is it possible that this racist, hypocritical, fraudulent FUCK will prove to be too much even for Oklahomans this fall?

Or will the good people who brought us James Inhofe and "Fuck The Homeless" t-shirts fall neatly into line and mark their ballots like Uncle Elephant tells them to?

16. Picking on the wrong people, Tom....

The Cherokee Nation is not all that easy to get recognition from. You have to be able to point to your ancestor on the rolls, and with no "enrolled" ancestor, you may as well call yourself a Plastic Medicine Man.

Guess you gotta wear feathers and fringe and say "Ugh, Kemo-Sabe!" in Tonto's bad Carlyse English to be a REAL Indian, don'tcha, Tom?

And what abouut the Magna Carta, Tom? That's a "primitive" agreement, isn't it, since it was written in 1215?

But you wouldn't know that, would you, since you're a stupid ReTHUG fuck who got where you are because of who your daddy is.

Seems to be a common theme with these ReTHUGs, doesn't it?

18. He wasn't always an asshole...before he found "religion". I've known him
for 35 years as chief pilot for his daddy's company ... flew him all over the country for years. His younger brother is a decent person (and his sister is too)...his older brother is a clone of daddy...a lecherous drunk. TAC is just a wingnut.
