<snip>

Husar boarded Flight 849 in Minneapolis on his way from New York to visit some friends in Alaska, his wife, Linda, said yesterday. Officials said Husar, a supporter of Sen. John Kerry, was engaged in a discussion on the upcoming presidential election with a woman seated next to him - a President George W. Bush supporter - when she became turned off by his belligerent attitude and complained to the flight staff.

The woman also did not like that Husar would touch her leg and shoulder when he spoke to her, authorities said. Corona said Husar had "had a few drinks."

Russell Ridd, supervising senior crown attorney for the Manitoba Justice Department, said that when flight attendants approached Husar, he became enraged, deliberately spilling a container of alcohol and engaging in "the boisterous behavior of a drunk."

Ridd said the pilot deemed the situation "a minor emergency" and called for an abrupt landing. An armed marshal sat next to Husar until the plane reached a Winnipeg airport, where Husar was kicked off and promptly arrested.

2. Another Veteran ( Air Force) pissed off at W.
"She said her husband, who worked at the VA hospital for 25 years, is a "very patriotic" Air Force veteran, who's recently been "disappointed" with President Bush. She also said Husar tends to be "animated" in conversations.

"I'm disappointed that his vacation got messed up," she said."

I guess if you've actually served your country, you have a right to talk, unlike this byatch he sat next too.

Well, looks like we've at least found a candidate for the duel with Zell Miller.

3. Take it from a pro
"had a few drinks" means I was really fucked up. Many stories where someone does something stupid begin with I'd had a few drinks...You probably would not like being locked in a metal tube with a freeper with no where to go.

They could have been arguing about abortion or quantum mechanics, if you get loud and drunk on a commercial airliner expect a bad day.

4. I would not talk politics with a fellow air passenger period
You are in close quarters and basically are stuck with the seat. Unlike in a more casual arrangement, you don't have the option of just walking away.

Air travel is miserable enough these days without your fellow passengers selling you on their political/religious views - even if those views are correct.

5. split sympathy
i agree more with his election stance

but i agree more with her complaints about his physical aggression--which must be called sexual harrassment (his intoxicated state does not excuse this at all)

6. Do NOT touch! ! !
a fellow passenger. The only exception would be if the flight attendant needed the attention of a sleeping passenger and couldn't reach over to them - that's when I very gently tapped the arm of said passenger. But a man touching a woman's leg? let alone while arguing, and in a situation where she could not safely get away from him (if fasten seat belts sign was on, or his seat was between her and the aisle? She could press criminal charges for assault and/or unlawful restraint; and she could sue him in civil court. This guy needs a 12 step program and/or some psychological counseling. Unfortunately, the VA hospitals aren't readily available to veterans anymore.

7. Some people are "touchers"
They cannot help themselves. For some reason they have touch you while talking to you.

I've known several and I hate them with a passion because I dislike being touched.

There is no defending this idiot, Kerry supporter or not.

8. Remember y'all
We don't have all of his story.

She might be over-emphasizing the side-by-side touching that might be normal in this situation if you are in a narrow seat.

Or not. Dunno.

But we don't know what she was saying that incensed him so much either. I always want more details than I'm given in these stories.

9. 1) Do not get into political discussions.
2) However, if one is started with me, I certainly would not shy away from it.

3) Never touch another person of the opposite sex that is a stranger to you and who has a belligerent attitude towards you. IF what the repuke said is true, big IF, then what he did borders on unwanted sexual intimidation/harrassment.

4) Never, ever argue with a flight attendant, no matter if YOU are right and THEY are wrong - it's a definite losing situation.

5) And most important - NEVER TRUST A REPUKE'S SIDE OF THE STORY AT FACE VALUE - we've only heard her side - I doubt it was entirely accurate.
