An undercover newspaper reporter has smuggled fake bombing-making equipment into parliament, a day after fox hunting supporters burst into the chamber of the House of Commons, The Sun says.
It said its reporter, who had been working undercover in parliament for three weeks with bogus references, smuggled in the equipment which included batteries, wire and a timer.
The Sun said the reporter was able to smuggle in the fake equipment and a video camera despite heightened security after Wednesday's spectacular stunt by demonstrators protesting against a ban on the centuries-old tradition of fox hunting.
Peter Hain, the government leader in the House of Commons lower house, told the newspaper that the reporter's stunt "confirms all my worst fears. The Sun has done the House a favour by exposing the amateurish and old-fashioned culture which is a threat to the very cockpit of our democracy."
There now seems to be a struggle between the government and Parliament (ie the Speaker, and his staff) about who gets to run Parliamentary security.
