Bloomberg News: Iraq without electricity
Just announced on tv.

Apparently a pipeline crossing the River (Tigris?) was blown up/exploded and it took down the entire country's power grid.

Didn't take long...wasn't it just yesterday the Chimp diverted funds from power/water to security?

I'll look for a link.

Sorry mods, hope this is ok til I find a link.

I was getting ready to tell Jayfish what a BKC is.

And discovered the thread was locked.

Then this thread comes up. Talking about the same thing.

Oh well, I'll post here.

The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam
wrote that four US troops who were aboard the vehicle
were killed
when the Resistance destroyed the Humvee. Two
charred bodies could
be seen in the burning wreckage, while the force of the blast
that
struck the vehicle sent the two other Americans flying to
their
deaths, one of them the man who fired the
BKC.

The man who fires the BKC seldom survives Resistance
attacks on
Humvees, the local correspondent writes, because in
his position he
is always exposed to direct hits. The US military installed
shields on the Humvee to protect that position, but in fact all
they are
able to do is to provide protection against sniper bullets; they
are
ineffective against Resistance bombs or rocket-
propelled grenades.

So the BKC would be a truck mounted 50 cal., Jay,
IMHO.

9. resistance gets a capital R now?
Is this you doing that or your source? Since when does the resistance get that kind of respect? Also, what is a BKC?

Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 09:49 AM by jmcgowanjm
If this was a game I'd be walking out of
the stadium or turning the TV off.

But it's not a game, is it?

A BKC is a truck mounted 50 cal.

As in, the guy manning the BKC on the humvee
almost always dies when an RPG hits the vehicle.

Oh, and BTW, after I wrote the above I went and checked
the source-they capitalise Resistance also.

16. The source capitalized it
I googled the text and found this source.

https://www.politrix.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1318

I don't know why they capitalized it.

The link explains what a BKC is, by the way.

25. The latest Resistance Report is for Sunday 091204
Alpharetta.

But keep checking the source you're on
and (a neat game) try matching it with
the reports coming out of Centcom.

Like this:

the Arkansas Guard are stationed at Camp Cooke.

Now I know from a couple of sources that Camp Cooke
is called Taji by the Resistance.

Now when I see this:

The two Oregon Guardsmen killed Monday were reportedly
part of Corvallis-based B Company, 2nd Battalion,
162nd Infantry. Known as Bravo Company, the unit has
been detached from the 2nd Battalion and reassigned to
the 39th Brigade Combat Team of the Arkansas National
Guard.

I look to coordinate this with actions on Taji by the
Resistance.

24. Hmm... The Story You Posted Earlier Made It Sound Like...
the Iraqi's destroyed the vehicle using these BKC's. It looks like a Cyrillic acronym much like BMP,BDRM,PKM or even CCCP. I can't find a mention of this weapon anywhere. If it is US and on top of a Hummer though it indeed sounds like a .50. Thanks for the reply though.

26. Jay, there're a few more of these acronyms, like CJ5's,

that I'm not familiar with.
They seem to be Iraqi interpretations of
Russian hardware.
One of the main reasons I've been hesitstant about
posting this info is that I've been trying to interpret
the nomenclature of these weapons.
I think one is the Kornet wired antitank rocket,
good up to three miles way.

27. Found It.
7.62x54mm, crew serviced, weapon. Not real heavy but it's probably good enough to cut-up a Humvee. If those accounts are true, they were probably used for covering fire as US Soldiers emerged from their armored vehicles.

Meanwhile, saboteurs blew up a junction where multiple oil pipelines cross the Tigris River in northern Iraq on Tuesday, setting off a chain reaction in power generation systems that left the entire country without power, officials said.

20. I actually saw this on a crawl on CNN.
The whole country is without electricity? What a friggen' nightmare the Bush clan has visited on their country. But, I guess they are just too happy about Saddam being gone that they'll never notice they don't have electricity.

OKay... I think the Iraqis have had enough bush* style freedom. Time to bring the troops home and give them their country back. With several billion dollars in compensation.

If we just don't steal their oil every Iraqi man, women, and child, could be living a country club life.

11. We never restored much electricity to begin with, so it was probably EZ
to have the whole grid go down.

Poor bastards don't have clean, safe, potable water either.

Nice job we've done over there.

23. What does it matter
that they have no electricity or water, or that it's totally unsafe to go out because you could get shot when you leave the house to buy groceries, etc., or that many family members have been killed or maimed. They have freedom! They are FREE!
