Bush Wants Marijuana Ruling Struck Down (MD's punished)
Associated Press

The Bush administration wants the Supreme Court's permission to strip prescription licenses from doctors who recommend marijuana to sick patients.

The administration, which has taken a hard stand against state medical marijuana laws, asked the high court to strike down an appeals court ruling that blocked the punishment, or investigation, of physicians who tell patients they may be helped by the drug.

The administration's appeal, filed this week, gives the Supreme Court a chance to revisit the subject of legalized marijuana. Two years ago, the court ruled that there is no exception in federal drug laws for people to use pot to ease pain from cancer, AIDS or other illnesses. That case also involved a ruling of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. ---

1. A former drunken cokehead
wants to rid the country of medical marijuana? Give me a break. You know he smoked the shit to cure his hangovers every morning, or afternoon, or whenever he rolled his lazy drunk ass out of bed.

8. YOU MUST REMEMBER
what Shrub did when he was drinking it up and coking it up was YOUTHFUL INDESCRETION (granted, he didn't stop drinking until he was 40 or so...that's still a YOUTHFUL INDESCRETION)

What Cheney did when he was drinking and getting DUI's was YOUTHFUL INDESCRETION.

Perhaps you've not seen the tv commercials that remind us that anyone who even MENTIONS the word "marijuana" is not only a terrorist, but assists in the killing of small children, assists in gang activity, has ties to colombian drug cartels, and has the ability to shoot their friends with dads loaded, unlocked, unsecured gun that was left in his office...

sheesh! </sarcasm>

I agree somewhat with you.

I disagree that he has somehow recently grown up

24. I never said he wasn't
a mental midget.

When clinton admitted to smoking pot when he was 20 years old, that was high fucking treason. People were suggesting he should be thrown out of office for that. How can he look this nation in the eye, and tell the veterans of this country that while they were fighting in Vietnam, he was tokin' down in England with his buddies.....blah blah communist pinko blah blah blah

But Party-Boy here can coke it up and drink it up, get arrested, get DUI's, his VP gets DUI's.....and that's okay. that's no big deal. he doesn't need to answer to the past. he's reconciled his actions with god. blah blah blah blah. youthful fucking indescretion...again----he was an addict until his 40's--still is. But that's 'not a big deal'

Hypocrites in the truest sense of the word.

that's what's so fucking repugnant about this party. They're allowed to have their fun, get their pockets filled, have 'youthful indescretions' until their late 50's, but no one else can.

They can be addicts and not serve time, or not have their lives destroyed, but no one else can. Everyone else (except them) has to go to jail for their actions.....

Argh!!!

34. It's BARBARIC
To deny dying people the right to choose how they relieve their suffering. Especially if it is from a PLANT made by God/nature.

The B*sh Cartel, Ashcroft are pursuing a RADICAL, Zero-tolerance agenda when it comes to Marijuana laws.

Operation Pipedream was just the beginning. They will continue to use the RAVE Act to shut down Anti Marijuana Prohibition political activities, as they have already done in Billings, MT by shutting down a NORML fundraiser.

People will continue to suffer and die UNNECESSARILY and it's going to get worse unless we stand up, keep fighting!

4. Don't you think that the Democrats
could use this as a unifying campaign theme - Compassion! I mean, if your dying, what good is more studying of the "issues"? I wish the front runners would stand and deliver.
I read in mpp.org that Kerry has gotten excellent ratings from the mpp.org (as did Sharpton and Kucinich). Should he hid this fact? Should he promote it?

9. Obviously the world doesn't understand
Sure, he did these things during his impressionable youth (which, for him, was about until age 40). But now, he's been SAVED! (Somebody give me an AMEN!) GOD put him here to do His bidding, and therefore the HOLY BUSH is BETTER THAN YOU!, and COMPASSION has nothing to do with it! This is GOD'S WILL (somebody give me another AMEN!). PAIN is good for you! And the HOLY BUSH will make sure you have even MORE pain than you can handle!

Now, let's talk about your title to THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY BUSH...

18. Sushi_lover, just as the muslims pilgrimage to medina,

Just as the muslims pilgrimage so will americans in the future. They will pilgrimage to Guantanamo to see the little cell that Little Boots bush spent the rest of his life in after he was convicted of letting 9/11 happen when he was told it would.

Every american school child will be taught that when hearing the name George W. Bush, they must spit on the ground to show the disgust of true americans to what he perpetrated on our country when he got us into a war thru lies.

Every anniversary of the date of his conviction for treason will be a national holiday, the celibration of which will eclipse the fourth of july.

And we get to watch it happen live and in full color!

16. Funny how this happens right after the pharmeceutical companies...
.. announce plans to manufacture cannabis - based drugs in the UK.

http://www.gwpharm.com/news_pres_21_may_03.html

It's well known that this fraudministration is well connected in the drug business, legal and otherwise, and that they hate competition. No doubt they have a plan to introduce the corporate cannabis drugs into the US eventually, but only after the threat of competition is reduced.

17. Every day
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 01:36 PM by realpolitik
because of the stroke, I wake up in pain, I go through the day in pain, I go to bed in pain.
If I ride my bicycle for 6 miles or so, the endorphins kick in, and that makes the day almost ok. But everything I do, I do around the pain.
The meds I take make me nauseous, I take them twice a day.
And this will go on until the day I die.

Yet, some drunken cokehead, swindling muthafukah can stand there and tell the suffering to suffer more, or go ahead and die. The malignant turd cannot be a compassionate conservative because he is a sociopath and other humans are just 'things' to him. I pray to the Goddess every day that he gets to suffer just like the thousands this cynical bit of barbarity causes.

Medical necessity has been an affirmative legal defence virtually since the Magna Carta. SCOTUS and Bush did away with that to fight the war on drugs... except coke, liquor, and cigarettes, I guess... oh, lets not forget the speed we make our brave flyboys in Iraq take, so they can squeeze in a few hundred more sorties.

May they live out their lives in unsbearable pain and constant nausea.

BTW... so you CAN get a college loan if you run someone down with a car while on a teenage bender, but not if they catch you smoking a joint... am I the only one to whom this makes no sense?

:puke:

30. it doesn't make sense to me either

not just that---you can go to prison for rape and murder, come out, and get federal financial aid in the form of Pell Grants, subsidized and unsubsizided loans, etc.

BUT---if you are even ARRESTED for possession of any sort of drug-related offense, you can never EVER get federally funded educational financial aid EVER for the rest of your life.

It would be a BIT more even (though still unfair) if they denied Financial Aid to anyone who ever went to jail for ANYTHING or were arrested for ANYTHING----again---that would still suck and I would still be against it---but to specifically single out drug-related offenses and NOTHING ELSE---that is wrong.

I'd much rather a pot-head get fin. aid than a murderer, or rapist....

22. What business does the govt have telling drs what they can or can't say?
This is just like the gag orders they govt imposes on family planning groups, sex education, overseas organizations working against AIDS--mention abortion (or birth control) and you get no American money.

What will they do, send in patients to spy on doctors, and if they mention marijuana, their license gets pulled? I don't see how the govt has any business pulling a dr's license because of what he says. Doctors have enough trouble doing their jobs of caring for people with the HMOs looking over their shoulders and telling them that they won't pay for this or that. Now this?

When is our govt going to realize that the "war on drugs" is not only a waste of time and money, but is also keeping medicines that can help away from people.

31. This is truly bullsh*t--Republican government intrusion
I miss the days when Republicans stood solidly for minimal government intrusion into people's affairs.

What Bush is proposing, in effect, is for the DEA, the federal agency that registers doctors' *state-granted* authority to prescribe and dispense controlled substances, to tell physicians how to friggin practice medicine. Which is utter and complete BS because all such authority comes from peers and the states, the DEA should have absolutely no say in that. Politics affecting the practice of medicine--that is SO contrary to classical Republican values it's not even funny!

33. Dennis Kucinich will put an end to this nonsense. Read his

positions on the issues at

http://www.kucinich.us

Dennis says that current drug policy "benefits only the prison-industrial complex," and "A safe, free and just America is undermined, not bolstered, by the costly and ineffective War on Drugs."

Here's the paragraph on medical marijuana:

"Most Americans believe that medical marijuana should be available to help relieve the suffering of seriously ill patients, and eight states have passed laws to allow it. But the Bush administration has harassed medical marijuana patients in an effort to assert federal authority. This is another aspect of the drug war that should be ended."
