Senate Backs Ban on Work for Offshore Firms

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate backed a measure seeking to block Department of Homeland Security contracts from going to U.S. companies headquartered offshore.

The Senate adopted the amendment to the $32 billion Homeland Security spending bill by voice vote on Monday evening.

Supporters of the measure argue that such companies use their offshore bases to reduce their U.S. tax bills, giving them an unfair advantage over companies headquartered in the United States.
