Nader wins ballot spot in Florida
TALLAHASSEE -- Ralph Nader is back on Florida's presidential ballot -- for now.

Secretary of State Glenda Hood stepped in Monday and ordered Florida's 67 election supervisors to add the Reform Party candidate's name -- just days after a Tallahassee judge sided with the state Democratic Party and stripped him from the ballot.

"We are acting as an honest broker," Hood said. "Supervisors are under the gun in sending out these ballots."

But the move by Hood, the former Orlando mayor named state elections chief by Gov. Jeb Bush, the president's brother, quickly exploded into a partisan fight over Nader's candidacy.

"This is amazing," said Scott Maddox, state Democratic Party chairman. "What Glenda Hood and Jeb Bush have done is turn the state's Division of Elections into the political and legal arm of the state Republican Party," which is seen as wanting Nader on the ballot to pull votes from Democratic Sen. John Kerry.

Hood's order -- sent in a memo to supervisors -- came moments after she filed a legal appeal Monday of the temporary injunction against Nader issued last week by Leon County Circuit Judge Kevin Davey.

1. We're going to be the laughing stock of the nation...again!
You have to read the article. The GOP doesn't even try to hide their under-handed work. They don't have to. They can abort babies on FoxNews and Republican constituents would believe whatever excuse they give them.

2. They are out of control
They do whatever they please with impunity.

We might as well just cancel the election and crown Georgie Boy, king. Why bother going through the motions of voting, when they are going to do whatever they please anyway?

8. Because in order to thwart a revolution, they have to give the
appearance of normalcy for the sake of those people who refuse to don the tinfoil hat. If they were to blatantly expose themselves for what they are, this whole nation would erupt into one gigantic civil war. Yes, there are blatant abuses of power, but the Pugs are slippery enough to cover their asses with *most Americans(the ones who aren't really paying close attention.) A quick denial is usually sufficient to deflect any accusations.

Wake up, America!

4. Isn't the Kerry campaign
supposed to have a team of lawyers in Florida for just such an occasion?

5. I despise Nader.
I asked my daughter how many of her 18 year old friends are going to vote and she said most of them, but they're voting for Nader. GODDAMMIT! I told her they were going to get drafted. Okay, so I flew off the handle, but this infuriates me. These are just kids, but the adults who vote for Nader are, IMO high-minded self-important a-holes who are no better than Bush supporters. Thank god intelligent men over 200 years ago were able to compromise and produce a document called 'The Constitution'. You don't compromise, you end up with jack shit.

10. I didn't really have an opinion before, but now that the GOP is
out of the closet on this one, I don't really think he's all that smart. The man is a useful fool for the GOP. Why isn't he intelligent enough to see it? It can only be because he wants George Bush to win.

6. Where's the Reuters report that HURRICANE IVAN used as excuse???
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 07:47 AM by DeepModem Mom
Maybe Karl decided that was too laughable for a brutal power play, and suggested Jeb change the line they're feeding the press?

Florida OK's Nader's Name on Election Ballot

MIAMI (Reuters) - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader's name can appear on Florida ballots for the election, despite a court order to the contrary, Florida's elections chief told officials on Monday in a move that could help President Bush in the key swing state.

The Florida Democratic Party reacted with outrage, calling the move "blatant partisan maneuvering" by Gov. Jeb Bush, the president's younger brother, and vowed to fight it.

In a memo to Florida's 67 county supervisors of elections, Division of Elections director Dawn Roberts said the UNCERTAINTY OF HURRICANE IVAN, which could hit parts of the state by week's end, FORCED HER TO ACT.

Florida Circuit Court Judge Kevin Davey issued a temporary injunction last week preventing the state from putting Nader on the 2004 ballot, siding with a Democratic challenge that the Reform Party did not qualify as a national party under state law.

A hearing on a permanent injunction is scheduled for Wednesday. But Roberts said Hurricane Ivan, which is headed for Florida's Gulf coast, had raised "a substantial question as to when such a hearing" will be held....

9. They're blaming it on the Hurricane! This is Florida alright.
Thanks for the article. In the Orlando sentinel, they waited until page ten to write the real heading, "Democrats decry move as Republican trickery."

7. I read about that Judges decition and at the time asked how does
a party keep the status of a viable Party on the ballots? I think the judge ruled that the Reform Party was no longer eligible to be on the Fla ballot.

Regardless of who is right or wrong in this case, what does a Party have to do to remain viable?
