Carter fears Florida vote trouble (BBC News)
Monday, 27 September
snip---
He accused Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood, a Republican, of trying to get the name of independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader included on the state ballot, knowing he might divert Democrat votes.

He also said: "A fumbling attempt has been made recently to disqualify 22,000 African Americans (likely Democrats), but only 61 Hispanics (likely Republicans), as alleged felons."

Mr Carter said Florida Governor Jeb Bush - brother of the president - had "taken no steps to correct these departures from principles of fair and equal treatment or to prevent them in the future".
snip----
"With reforms unlikely at this late stage of the election, perhaps the only recourse will be to focus maximum public scrutiny on the suspicious process in Florida."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3693354.stm

President Carter just stops short of plainly saying that Glenda Hood and Jeb Bu$h are deliberately engaging in ongoing voter fraud.

In a democracy, Jeb Bu$h and Glenda Hood would be investigated, arrested, and thrown in prison for what they and their accomplices are doing.

1. Well, it becomes more clear, doesn't it?

In a democracy, Jeb Bu$h and Glenda Hood would be investigated, arrested, and thrown in prison for what they and their accomplices are doing

The fact that they aren't being arrested and thrown in prison etc. proves what we have here in the US today is not democracy. Not even the illusion of democracy. Just a kidnapped flag and a gang of lying thugs..

And I am unsure of our ability to mount a rescue. Hopeful, but unsure.

This is not a happy post.

3. worried.......
This is my first post. A friend recommended this site to me. Anyhow, I worry about the direction this country is headed in, too. This just makes it more apparent to me. An unhappy first post indeed.

7. Hi
And welcome to DU. There is much to be found here - refuge, inspiration, information - and an overall deep love for this nation.

Don't let my post be a downer.

There is hope.

2. I repeat.............
"Our constitution will fail, as all such constitutions have in the past, because of the essential corruption of the people. He pointed his finger at all the American people. And when the people become so corrupt, he said, we will find it is not a republic that they want but rather despotism -- the only form of government suitable for such a people."

Gore Vidal, quoting Franklin.

4. You have to ask...
Why does Carter "stop short" of calling them criminals and demanding an investigation. Why do these people keep tiptoeing around the crimes being committed by the nazis? What is he afraid of? He should call it what he knows it is...a blatant attempt to manipulate the vote in favor of his fucked up brother. A crime against the state worthy of treason.

Will no one stop these fucks?

14. Carter's message is all the stronger
for being delivered in measured words. As an elder statesman, he's using the language of a statesman. His meaning is perfectly clear.

is Jeb Bush's to give to George

the corruption of this American Voting Process has made voting a sham

12. No mention of this on ABC or PBS tonite....

And it's a pretty significant story since Carter's "whole thing" now, his area of interest and expertise, is the supervision of elections everywhere.

Doubly significant since he's an ex-pres.

It would appear that K himself is going to have to speak publicly to the opposition's electoral machinations in Fla, Ohio and elsewhere if he wants it reported in the media . Incredible that Carter can be ignored.

The media bias in this election is more blatant than ever and , win or lose, it should top the agenda of all progressive people after the election.

Something has gotta be done.

22. Actually, I'm looking for a newsstory about that right now.
On Norwegian news they've carried a story about how the US authorities are warning about an Al Qaida attack right before the election, trying to achieve what happened in Spain - that is, throw the conservative government out of power. I keep shouting at the tv that it wasn't the attack that turned the elections around, it was that the government lied about it to gain advantage. But nobody seems to be listening.

15. I'm so worried for all of you - this must be really hard to take.
The only thing I can say about John Howard is that it's virtually
impossible for him to cheat during the election process itself,
because in Australia the elections are actually run by an
independent Electoral Commission.

I've read how it was done first time around, and I thought there
seemed to be a case to answer - what can be done if it happens
again? Surely the people of Florida won't just sit and let it
happen without a murmur of protest - this time the Democratic
Party is forewarned - maybe everyone was rather stunned the first
time by the blatancy of what happened, but not again, surely?

Please tell me people would fight this time around.

19. Very strong because this is Pres. CARTER! He and his assoc.
have presided over possible voter fraud in many Countries. For Jimmy Carter to say we have a problem in the US is appalling! How in the world did this happen?

I know there have been accusations for many years that there was fraud in our voting system, but there has never been a time when the citizens felt they had to have MONITORS to prevent fraud!
