Nader attracts sparse crowd at West Palm appearance

Nader attracts sparse crowd at West Palm appearance

WEST PALM BEACH · Ralph Nader, blamed by many for costing Al Gore the presidency in 2000, touted himself Tuesday as the antidote for what he cast as this year's unpalatable choice between President Bush and John Kerry.

"Our democracy is being squeezed. It's being eroded, degraded, weakened," he said, decrying what he said were corporate-sponsored presidential candidates and parties.

Nader said he brought his message to Palm Beach County to attract support from "upscale Republicans who are furious with Bush" over high budget deficits, the Patriot Act, the war in Iraq, and federal regulation of local school districts. He said he wasn't looking for support from the county's Democrats, who outnumber registered Republicans.Nader said Democrats are "disgracing themselves" by working against his candidacy.
(snip)

"I'm a Nader supporter for Kerry," said Catherine Carroll of West Palm Beach. "You have to sacrifice your conscience for the good of the people. I would like to vote for Nader, but Bush is so destructive that I'll sacrifice my ideals."

5. Florida Nader voters from 2000 have got to feel terrible
They arguably have blood on their hands, so I could see why most of them are looking to atone for their sins.

10. About to Kicked off Pa. Ballot Again
In the next couple days, Nader will be kicked off the ballot in Pennsylvania for a second time. This time the reason will be valid - too many bogus signatures on his petitions.

11. Palm Beach, huh? LaPore still in office - Jews for Buchanan will go Nader
You wanna bet?
No one mentions Libertarian guy - Nader gets all free publicity possible - unjustified by anything. That's because it would look fishy if Bush would get 100% of the vote non? Need a diversion, an the antidote for what he cast as this year's unpalatable choice between President Bush and John Kerry.

15. LaPore is no longer in office - she lost the election.
Not that everything will be OK now, but at least she's gone. I saw an interview on the local news where she was acting all bitter and said her friends had betrayed her.

Boo-fucking-hoo!

19. Oh, god, I didn't realize that and I live here!
Thanks for the info - I've been living in Hurricane Hell with no power, cable teevee or modem, so I've lost track of stuff.

I'm a native Floridian and I'm so ashamed of this state.

12. "Sacrifice your conscience for the good of the people"????
See, that's why Nader people drive me up the wall. My conscience says that the good of the people is kinda near the top of the list. What an idiot.

14. well
Nader is an egomaniac and an idiot.

He said he'd still run again in 2000, even if he knew the outcome.

"Anyone who says, 'I don't care if Bush gets elected' is basically telling poor and working people in the country, 'I don't care if your lives are destroyed. I don't care whether you are going to have a little money to help your disabled mother. I just don't care, because from my elevated point of view I don't see much difference between them.' That's a way of saying, 'Pay no attention to me, because I don't care about you.' Apart from its being wrong, it's a recipe for disaster if you're hoping to ever develop a popular movement and a political alternative."--Noam Chomsky, 2004
