‘Drug trafficking threatens Afghanistan’s reconstruction’
http://www.afgha.com/?af=article&sid=36855

KIEV: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister warned that drug trafficking jeopardized the post-war construction of his country and urged the international community Wednesday to increase the resources needed to fight the flow of narcotics.

Dr Abdullah Abdullah said the drugs “menace should not be underestimated,” because it has “the greatest destabilizing potential,” while speaking to reporters at a news conference during his first visit to Ukraine.

Citing “very active drug mafia” and farmers who make “50 times more” for growing opium than wheat, Abdullah said the problem had become so dire that eradication required efforts “if not to the same level ... as the war against terror, but something to that scale.”

Afghanistan’s top diplomat seemed to imply that the international community bore responsibility for aiding Afghanistan in reigning in the region’s rampant drug trafficking, calling the country’s drug problem “another menace imposed upon Afghanistan,” adding that “continuation of the war” has exacerbated the problem “to a great extent.”

3. If the CIA did not need the money, we could shut it down, but buying
warlords is not inexpensive (which is what the Bush CIA is in effect doing).
