to dismiss Cuyahoga County Voter Board.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones issued a stern rebuke to Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell for threatening to remove the Cuyahoga County Board and its Director for not complying with his recent directive on provisional ballots. Representative Tubbs Jones made the statement on Fox TV's 'Day-Side' show with Linda Vester.

1. Goodboy, all is forgiven.
This Blackwell person sounds like a train wreck. Goodboy did post a couple of threads on Blackwell, but this one cuts to the heart of the problem. Blackwell has got to go.

2. Blackwell went to college with my brother
in Cincinnati and have been appalled at his ascension in the Repug party. He's pretty arrogant. Kudos to Tubb Jones. The Congressional Black Caucus simply won't stand for these election shenanigans this time around.

3. I AM A PROUD RESIDENT OF CUYAHOGA COUNTY!!!
It brought tears to my eyes when they stood up to Blackwell. The voter board was also quick to respond to Blackwell's initial directive that all registration forms not printed on 80 lb paper to be thrown out...NO WAY! So they are sticking to their guns. The Voter Board are just refusing to be party to disenfrancising voters. This is what needs to happen whenever government officials abuse their power.

4. Blackwell is seen as a leading contender for Ohio governor in 2006.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 06:11 AM by Bullshot
The state has been under severe financial problems for the past 4 years and it looks like it will get worse before it gets better, based on projections of the next biennium budget which begins July 1, 2005. The state passed a temporary sales tax hike last year to help eliminate the deficit. Blackwell has been leading a charge to immediately eliminate it. That's fine, but he's never offered any plan to explain how he'll balance the state budget with the revenues from the state sales tax hike being out of the equation.

Typical Republican mentality. Cut, cut, cut, taxes to appease the voters, but no plan to balance the budget.

Ohio has had 14 straight years of Republican governors. The Republicans have controlled the state house and senate for 12 straight years. And Republicans have held every elected cabinet position in the state for the past decade. And I've never seen the state's financial picture in worse shape than it is today.

Damn those liberals! How dare they screw up the state's economy!

My supervisor, who works for a state agency, actually blames the Democrats for this mess. He says the Republicans are just trying to dig the state out of the mess the Democrats left the state in. (When the Republicans took control of the state legislature, Ohio had a surplus "rainy day fund" in the hundreds of millions of dollars. That's all gone, now.

5. Reponse to your boss
"Oh yeah! Well the Democrats were only digging out from the mess left by Joseph Foraker"

...he was Ohio governor from 1886-1890. And, yes, I did have to look that up!

Considering that Republicans have held the governor's office for all be 12 years in the past 40, and I'm not even sure when he had a majority in the General Assembly, he can hardly blame the Democrats for the mess we're in.

6. Regarding last paragraph: If that is the case,
shouldn't things be getting better instead of worse. Your supervisor is blinded by his partisanship.

8. I used to live in Ohio
I moved back home to Vermont about 10 months ago after being layed off from my job.
While I was there I thought it was odd how the republicans always say that government should only be responsible for two things, the roads and the army.
Not to offend anyone form Ohio but you guys have got the worst roads I've ever seen. Soon as you cross the border from P.A. its like driving around in a tank range.
As for the army (police, security etc.) I lived about twenty minutes from the Youngstown metro area. Youngstown has been called at times the murder capitol of the U.S. In the two looooooooong years I was there, I remember seeing at least one murder a week in the local news.
So much for republican principles.
