Bush*s Media Barbeque: No Grilling
President Treats Press To Off-the-Record Bash

By Dana Milbank

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 28 -- In the time-honored political tradition of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, President Bush invited the White House press corps out to his ranch Wednesday night for a poolside barbecue.

For reporters who have spent the last month sleeping in cricket-infested Waco hotels and watching cable news in a middle school gymnasium that houses the news media's operations, it was a chance to see another side of central Texas: the rolling prairies, roving cattle herds and, not least, the large swimming pool on the president's 1,600-acre ranch. Sipping their Shiner Bocks at sunset (Bush drank nonalcoholic Buckler), many of the journalists were forced to acknowledge that Prairie Chapel Ranch is not such an awful place after all.

Though the combined audience of the assembled news outlets is in the tens if not hundreds of millions, the words uttered by the president and Laura Bush cannot be conveyed to the public -- the White House required that the conversations be off the record. It was the first such gathering of the full press corps at Bush's ranch and the second of its kind in Bush's presidency.

In early evening, some 50 journalists and camera crews, along with a dozen aides and as many Secret Service agents, piled into a half-dozen white vans for the drive to the heavily fortified Bush ranch and its relatively modest limestone compound. (Reporters were not allowed in the main house but connived their way into the guest house by saying they needed to use the toilets.)

1. BBQ
The king was so magnanimous to bestow his presence upon the press lackeys. I am sure they all bowed low before him. They were at their whoriest best. He laid hands upon them whereupon they all fell to their knees and did the deed.

2. I think Milbank is good
but that story sucked.

Why would anyone care about that? It sounds like a story written for his journalist buddies. :puke:

14. I was pleased to hear about the cricket infestation, though.
That's one of the ten plagues, right?

3. Isn't he swell
Throw those Romans a loaf of bread and send them off happy
as larks. I'm sure the WH press corp will eat it up and
come back to Washington singing his praise and be ever so
grateful for their night of fun. Notice, they get chicken,
the good guests always get beef tenderloin. By the sound of
it, they had already had their fill of chicken, nevertheless
what a treat for the lot of them.

5. Whores!
"...some 50 journalists and camera crews, along with a dozen aides and as many Secret Service agents, piled into a half-dozen white vans for the drive to the heavily fortified Bush ranch and its relatively modest limestone compound. (Reporters were not allowed in the main house but connived their way into the guest house by saying they needed to use the toilets.)"

Relatively modest my ass! Nice that the reporters had to come up with an excuse to get a glimpse of the guest house...I mean it's not like going to the bathroom is normal when you're eating and drinking! Did Chimpy and Pickles think the Stenos would hold it until they got back to their hotels? Lucky for us our press corps are muckraking Woodward and Bersteins! They weren't going to schmooze with the Prez and not get a looksee at the guest house - no siree! Maybe next year they'll get up the nerve to have a quick peek at the big house (modest as it is). Imagine the papers that will sell!!

Just when I think the whoring can't get more blatant, the WH lapdogs slap on the fishnet stockings and proudly turn their tricks for the world to see. What's so pathetic is that the press doesn't seem to be aware of the contempt this administration has for them.

12. Press Out-of-Touch Alert #3912!
My "guest house" is a pillow and, if lucky, a blanket on a hardwood floor in the corner of the common room. That's "modest"!

16. If I were there, I would have peed in the pool.
:-)
Remember, "Caddyshack"?...well, we won't go there!

But, I'm surprised...I would have thought Junior would have at least supplied a few "Port-O-Potties" for the reporters. What a crappy host he is!

20. drop a few Snickers bars in the pool, on the sly?
Great idea! Give Georgie a fright ... my guess is that, even though the man disses his own daughters with that "Whining Pool" schtick, he uses it more than they do.

17. They said they "had to use the toilets"
Hmmph! Why didn't they just go off into some uncleared brush & do their business there. Imagine, going to someone's house for a barbecue & expecting to use the toilet!/sarcasm

That said, what a bunch of mediawhores. Pitiful, & enraging.

That Bush.

I'm glad that the press weren't so besotted with him and the free eats that they gave him a pass on having called his own wife a "lump".

22. Barney's being abused again
No dog would drink from a chlorine-laced pool unless said dog was dehydrated.

So Barney gets dehydrated and dropped on the pavement all in one day.
