Demonstrators Gathering at Lincoln Memorial

Washington (AP) - Thousands of people are gathering at the Lincoln Memorial Sunday for a demonstration billed as "The Million Worker March." Organizers are speaking out on jobs, universal health care and an end to the war in Iraq.

The National Park Service has given organizers a permit to use the memorial grounds all afternoon. A spokesman for the U.S. Park Police says demonstrators have said they expect about 100,000 people to gather for an afternoon of speeches.

Sergeant Scott Fear says buses have been coming in from several parts of the country to drop off people participating in the event.

The AFL-CIO has not endorsed the event because the nation's largest labor federation is mobilizing its leadership for a get-out-the-vote effort tied to next month's elections.
