<snip>

BAGHDAD (AFP) - The body of a US soldier was found in his living quarters in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala, raising the American death toll in the country to 1,100, according to an official Pentagon (news - web sites) tally.

The soldier's corpse was found in his bunk house after he did not return to guard duty, the military said in a statement.

A spokesman declined to comment on whether the soldier had committed suicide and said the cause of his death would be announced after the completion of an official probe.

The death raised the number of US military fatalities in Iraq (news - web sites) to 1,100 since the March 2003 invasion, according to Pentagon numbers.

3. The headline is not only misleading, it's also false.

4. Why?
They have the count wrong...but the soldier they're referring to was a non-combat death.
