BET CEO Johnson Appeals to Top African Americans in Bush White House

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- After more than a month of waiting,
BET finally got an answer from President George W. Bush to a formal invitation
to address African-American voters in his own primetime BET NIGHTLY NEWS
interview on the network. The answer is no.
BET Founder and CEO Robert Johnson first issued invitations to both
President Bush and Democratic Presidential hopeful Senator John Kerry (D-
Massachusetts) on September 14. He asked each of them to appear on the
network to discuss issues of relevance to BET viewers during this crucial
stretch of the 2004 Presidential Election campaign. Senator Kerry accepted,
and his half-hour interview was televised on October 7. But according to
representatives of the White House, President Bush's current schedule will not
allow time for him to appear on BET, and they asked that the network approach
him again, "after the election."

4. I hope all my fellow Americans who happen to be black do not accept this
for anything but the slight it is. Black make up enough of a portion of the population of this country to be made time for. Republicans want the black vote but are most unwilling to include us in their busy schedules.

3. Shrub is a COWARD.
He's afraid to face tough questions.

Especially from the black community.

Either that or he's taking the black vote "for granted".

Okay, Jesse, Rev. Al and others, go get the coWard. Kerry needs you.

8. The Chimp knows he will get less than a fraction of the black vote...
so he's not bothering to "waste" his time talking to BET. There's nothing to "take for granted" in this case.

No worries. I doubt any black folks would bother showing up to hear his lame ass anyway. He has zero credibility when it comes to addressing issues affecting black people, so he'd have to pile more lies on top of the normal lies he spews out on a regular basis and there's only so much bullshit black people can take.

We'd start booing and calling for The Sandman to yank his ass off the stage, via Showtime at the Apollo.

5. Didn't he repeatedly refuse to meet with the CBC?
That is, until they rented a bus and simply showed up at the White House so that he couldn't escape? Uh-huh, the GOP reaches out to black voters once again . . .

6. You MAKE time, Bub!
WTF? That is the lamest excuse for not meeting with an important segment of the population. I hope the African American vote is what puts the nail in Bush's coffin. Sweet irony!

14. The BET appearance
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 09:09 AM by rogue emissary
Kerry got some tough questions, but he did a good job answering them. He also brought up his senate record and his commitment to diversity throughout the country. It was a short interview, but it was nice to hear him talk about how he's going to fix the mess we're in.

16. it was a very tough interview
I'm sure the Bush* people saw the Kerry interview, and didn't want their brainless boy having to answer tough questions from someone who actually asks meaningful, substantive questions to a candidate.

For content, it was the best interview of the campaign season, IMO. No fluff, no 'do you love your wife' moments, no nonsense. Kerry even seemed a little annoyed, which meant the guy was hitting his marks. Kerry did well, Bush* would have been a disaster. Still, he's supposedly president of ALL the people, and refusing this interview is an insult.

10. Racist coward or cowardly racist? Powell and Condi know who massa is
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 09:08 PM by nu_duer
don't they?

I mean, to stand by and watch the ease with which "black America" is rejected. "Approach him again after the election" - come back when you know your place - ?

He wouldn't refuse CNN?

And he's only there because his brother was hard at work denying the the right to VOTE to black people!!!!

Yet Condi and Powell stand there, smiling right along.

What a colossal mistake of the bush campaign. Yet another one. Just stupid.

Kerry should go on again.

And I've never seen such an arrogant f**k as george w bush.

I think African-American voters should wait and support Bush after the election.
