Marijuana 'petition' actually voter registration form (Repug Dirty Trick)
COURTHOUSE - Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) students recently received a real-life lesson: Do not sign something unless you thoroughly read it.

Students, who last month signed a petition that was being circulated on the Blue Bell campus to legalize marijuana for primarily medicinal purposes, now are finding out that they are registered Republicans.
"This is just very disheartening," said Plymouth resident Jennifer Fugo, a 24-year-old continuing education student who describes herself as a "victim of voter registration manipulation."

"Everyone is encouraging young people to register and vote and then they experience something like this," Fugo said Monday. "This is just outrageous."

Fugo, who had been living in New York, this summer returned to the area and, in August, had her voter registration transferred to Plymouth. Her new registration card at that time correctly listed her party affiliation as a Democrat.

Imagine her surprise last week, said Fugo, when she received a new registration card from the county that listed her as a registered Republican.

1. what's the point of this dirty trick?
I don't understand it. So they get registered as Republicans, that doesn't affect any votes.

5. I wasn't criticizing you
Just wondering why the pugs are wasting time on that. It IS deceptive, but I just didn't see what they hope to gain by it. :hi:

12. The Thuglicans prolly plan to "help" the students vote.
It doesn't sound like the students were trying to register or interested in voting. So now the Thugs have the registration info for a registered vote who doesn't plan to vote. It provides the opportunity for the Thugs to vote in place of the students.

8. That's what I'm beginning to think
Sound like the Baathist Party?

I've told my husband if Bush is re-elected, we need to get out of here (the country). But it looks like there's just not any way we can afford it.

So...here in my county of Republican stronghold, I'm thinking walk into the Republican HQ and work from within. Primaries: vote for pro-choice candidates and those more in line with my values and beliefs. Money: still donate to Democratic candiates.

The things is, around here I don't trust them. I didn't register to vote until about two years ago because I know how the politics come into play. If you're looking for a job and want to be successful, party affiliation will be a factor.

Switching the registered party affiliation might be the best way to get this turned around.

9. Wow!
I seriously think that's a brilliant idea...Kudos, JP! Then the poll numbers will get REALLY disheartening for Repugs..."Mr. President, 75% of registered Republicans think you're a coke-snorting assbag who can't read his own briefing papers."

16. I know that some of my family do that...
and then turn around and vote straight Democratic.... plus, you get to vote for the 'worst' candidate in the Rep primaries.

Im thinking of switching to unaffiliated myself.

17. If it does...
then reps will fight to consolidate their republican strongholds... theyll end up adding democrats... but it would have to be quite a few to be effective.

14. Maybe they think it will confuse the kids..and they will end up not voting
I don't understand why you have to register as one or the other. You don't do that in my state and it makes no sense to me.

21. It affects primary voting in some states
In NM you have to be one or the other to participate in voting in the primaries. You can't be a registered independent and vote in the primaries. If you're a registered green and there's a green in the primaries, you get to participate.

15. John Kerry needs to publicly confront the right with these
ongoing tricks to cheat people out of their
votes. There is such a long list of abuse that
the American people need to know how "unpatriotic"
the right has become.

19. I agree!!!

I have started two threads about this and they both died.

I suppose people just think that all these stories are being taken care of, but they are wrong!

The same thing may be happening to people in another state but they are not aware of this incident.

John Kerry must speak out and now!

Every time he starts a speech, he needs to tell of some abuse. He needs to tell all the crowds to tell everyone they know. Say the Media isn't getting out the message but we will!

20. THIS IS VOTE FRAUD!
This is not inconsequential! The people pulling this scam are counting on the students to not vote. The scammers will go and vote multiple times using the students' registrations.

The only point I can see to registering them as Thuglicans is that they can be used again to vote in a Republican primary. Or maybe it's just force of habit.

22. Question: What does it matter what you are "registered" as?
Can't you still vote for whoever? Including non-Republicans.
