NASCAR: Plane Carrying Members of Hendrick Motorsports Missing

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - A plane carrying members of the Hendrick Motorsports organization lost contact with the Federal Aviation Administration on its way to a NASCAR race on Sunday, and a search was underway for the aircraft.

NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said the FAA has notified the National Transportation Safety Board, and "they're investigating to see what might have happened or what has happened."

Hendrick owns the teams of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Terry Labonte and Brian Vickers, who competed in Sunday's Subway 500 in the Nextel Cup Series at Martinsville Speedway.

NASCAR learned of the plane's disappearance during the race and withheld the information from the Hendrick drivers until afterward, Hunter said. All the Hendrick drivers were summoned to the NASCAR hauler immediately after the race and Johnson, who won the race, was excused from Victory Lan

more people in airplane crashes in the last few years than on the track. i guess we will find out later....
