Kerry Calls Red Sox 'America's Team'
TOLEDO, Ohio - Count Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) of Massachusetts among those Boston baseball fans who have waited a lifetime to see the Red Sox win the World Series (news - web sites).

Kerry, wearing a Red Sox cap on the way to a morning rally in Toledo, told reporters Thursday, "I woke up this morning ... is it really true, it's so great."

Recalling that a caller to a radio show early in the campaign had said, "John Kerry won't be president until the Red Sox win the World Series," Kerry told supporters at the rally, "Well, we're on our way!"

The Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night, completing a four-game sweep to win their first World Series title since 1918.

11. Ding ding ding! NewYorkerfromMass, you're our grand prize winner!
After the third game, the team from Kerry's home state arose from the dead and won a league championship from a team that has won twenty-six. Then they ascended into heaven by winning the World Series in a swing state. If that's not a sign from god, I don't know what is!!!

5. Before the Freepers get upset...
the article says: "In 2004, the Red Sox are America's team."

Taking the statement out of context, look for the anti-Kerry mob to criticize Kerry for his comments.

I don't think he meant to take the all time "America's team" title from baseball's Atlanta Braves or football's Dallas Cowboys.

Although when I think about it, what gives those teams the right to claim "America's Team" anymore than any other team/sport.

14. America's Team, God's Team, but most of all
MY team!! (Well, technically, Jerry Jones still owns it, but who's to quibble?)

That whole "America's Team" stuff was just Tex Schramm's attempt to intimidate the other teams that year. It's funny that it stuck, but I guess it was such a clever title it had to go to someone, so why not the team who invented the phrase?

18. If we lost it, how come everyone thinks of the Cowboys when
someone uses that phrase?

We've lost games, all national respect and prestige, a lot of our earning power, and a lot of support outside of Dallas... Don't you think that makes us America's Team right now?

They have always been out of touch to me.

Funny though! :hi:

16. I NEVER thought they were "AMERICA's TEAMS"
I think the Braves, with that Tomahawk chop shit, are HORRIBLE. Every time I see them, I think of the "FIGHTING WHITIES" -- that Native American basketball team that took that name to stick it back in the faces of those who disregard the AI culture.

I have a real icky feeling about the REDSKINS name, too--I always found it rude, insensitive, and disrespectful. The mascots, the woowoo nonsense, it just does not sit right with me. However, I think they should keep the name, just change the mascot...to a POTATO...!!!

15. That's too funny! He does look like Jesus! Well, at least
the Catholic Germanized jesus that popped up during the Middle Ages and that we still use as our guide. Jesus probably looked a lot more like Usama bin Laden than like the pictures we draw nowadays, but Jesus is another fellow who had to become white to make it in the world.

22. Got this from
bartcop.com ..

"Our Election 2004 Fiasco Preview begins where the fiasco began last time: Florida.
While The Sunshine State's 2000 debacle gave us 36 days of breezy, lighthearted fun,
there were negative aspects as well, and the state has been warned by God four times
this hurricane season alone to never let it happen again."

24. See the difference in how Bush congratulated them...
Kerry takes it to the crowd, Bush takes it to the corporate suite:

Kerry, wearing a Red Sox cap as he bounded into a morning rally in Toledo, recalled someone phoning a radio show early in the campaign and saying, "John Kerry won't be president until the Red Sox win the World Series." He exclaimed, "Well, we're on our way!"

...........

Bush congratulated the team's owner and president by phone — and thanked Schilling for his support.

26. No!!! I... can't... vote... Kerry... HELP!!!!
I just don't know if I can do it.. How can a lifelong New Yorker, someone who has chanted NINE-TEEN EIGHT-TEEN hundreds and hundreds of times (which will now just have to be replaced with the plebian "Boston Sucks" or "24 more to go" something like that) vote for Kerry? Please, help. I'm wavering here.. I can't waste my vote on Nader just to show Kerry that if the Red Sux (Sox.. whatever) are America's Team, I want no part of it! HELP!!!
