Ohio GOP Loses Bid to Fight Registrations
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Republicans lost an attempt Friday to restart hearings on thousands of voter registrations contested by the GOP, and the court's action could mean the hearings will never be held.

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati turned down several Republican appeals, clearing the way for a lower-court judge to decide whether to extend her temporary order stopping the hearings.

The court action could prevent the hearings from ever taking place because they must be held within two days of the election, state Republicans have said.

Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro, who filed one of the appeals, said stopping the hearings "has just thrown Ohio's electoral process into disarray, and has opened the door to voter fraud."

1. Which throws this one back to Susan Dlott.
And she already gave a firm, certain answer to Blackwell. She was a Clinton appointee, and is reliable, reasonable and moderate -- they can try to smear her all they want, but the Republicans in Washington wouldn't let Clinton appoint any judges who were to the left of Lieberman and they know it.

4. This makes me proud to be a Democrat:
"Democrats and Republicans have signed up thousands of polling place representatives, although Democrats say they do not plan to challenge registrations and will monitor the conduct of Republican representatives."

7. They based all of this on the fact that there was a "Mary Poppins"
on the registration list. I would laugh like hell if someone named Mary Poppins stepped forward and proved that she is a qualified voter.

8. Yup, the only way Republicans can actually ever win
Is to find methods to disenfranchise democratic voters, or find some way to convince them to not vote. They have the same ideqs about voting as the death penalty. They would prefer to koill a few innocent people in order to make certain that many guilty do not get away. They would prefer that some voters get disenfranchised in order to prevent some from comitting fraud. One of Bush's campaign people virtually said this on TV the other day when discussing the Ohio issue. THey sais\d that they knew of course than some legitimate voters would be effected by this challenge to the 30,000 voters, but they would at least prevent those who were tyrying to committ fraud from voting this way. Of course this would result in some legitimate voters being prevented from voting, but inrder to prevent fraud, thats O.K. The best thing to do would be to register voters on their drivers licenses, and for those who dont drive, use the state I.D. that states have avaliable at the drivers license bureaus . They are photo I.D. Get rid of the need to change precinct by local address and tag voters registration to state of residence alone, and on election day, report change of address if any. This way a lot more people who wish to vote will be able to without going through a dual process.

Well at least thin puts Ohio in Kerry's corner once and for all.
