(Texas) Most work from plant would go to MEX after planned closure (500)
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/business/10123474.htm?1c

WAXAHACHIE, Texas - The planned closing of a North Texas refrigeration plant threatens to slash more than 500 jobs, with most of the work expected to go south of the border.

The head of a union representing Tyler Refrigeration Co. employees says the plant south of Dallas is scheduled to shutter in 2005.

The plant, one of Waxahachie's oldest, will begin downsizing sometime after the first of the year, with layoffs expected to begin after the second quarter, union officials said.

"It's not a real good day for Waxahachie," City Manager Bob Sokoll told the Waxahachie Daily Light in Sunday's editions.

I think this falls under that title.
I'm in Austin, very Blue. Waxahatchie is very red, they can now go fuck themselves for voting moron in.

2. Sorry but
I wonder how those Bush voters feel now? Not only did they lose their job due to outsourcing, it is going to Mexico for mexicans to take.

Reap what you sow. You created the monster and he is all yours.

I am sorry for any Kerry supporters. They tried.

You are right, I don't KNOW that they voted for Bush but considering the corporation is based in TEXAS, it is a pretty fair assumption. I am not going to be apologetic if a Bush voter gets what they deserve. Screw them.

49.  and that sucks...
But you know, to read the Waco Trib endorsement of Kerry a few weeks before the election, it really sounded like the area had come to it senses...the article talked about how, yeah, the Waco area benefited from the gaggle of media that follow pinhead to his make-believe ranch and that Baylor Univ was probably going to get his library <has he ever even been IN a friggin' library? Is that an oxymoron or WHAT---Bush Library. Guess Laura can work there when they are finally GONE from DC> BUT then they followed it up with "but Bush was SILENT when the local VA hospital was going to be shut down". They sounded really pissed at him. Say what you will about the people in the area, it took alot of balls for the Trib and the Crawford paper to NOT endorse shrub.

37. Sorry gang, but Clinton gets the blame on this one. NAFTA is his.
In 92, only Ross Perot was against NAFTA. The 'giant sucking sound' of jobs going south of the border was one of his biggest campaign themese.

It took 10 years to really gather steam, but it sure as hell is barrelling ahead now.

You cannot do a free trade agreement with a country that is so vastly different from you in wages, environmental standards, worker rights, etc. NAFTA was the biggest mistake of Clinton's presidency.

Kerry would've been only marginally better than Bush on this issue, because he's a big free trader too. His tax changes might have made some minor improvements, but we need BIG improvements.

If you make it here, you can sell it here. If you don't make it here, it outta be tariffed.

It worked for the first 200 years of our history.

47. True. But Clinton isn't President and isn't continuing the practice, now
that it has become a widespread problem, COUPLED WITH THE TAX INCENTIVES FOR THE COS. TO MOVE THERE!

Kerry was going to try to help with this problem. Bush sees this as a good thing...something he planned on. Clinton didn't intend for there to be widespread movings and outsourcing. Quite a difference.

Even if Clinton is the initial villain, there was a clear choice on this issue....and they elected the one who was in favor of outsourcing.

I am sorry for all the Kerry voters who will lose their job because of millions of ignorant morons voting for Bush.

But every single Bush voter deserves what he or she gets. Sorry...absolutely no empathy here. Actually, I wish all of them will lose their health care, retirement funds, or their jobs.

Unfortunately, my parents voted for Bush. They are decent and well-meaning people, but very ignorant about the true nature of the Republican party. They are also both retiring within the next month. It will be interesting to see what they have voted upon themselves.

I am not far behind you, and have been paying into SS since age 13, but probably won't see a penny of it. I am 51 and not counting on retirement at all. I finally have a job right now (one year renewable contract) and I am putting 20 percent of my salary into 403M and Fidelity accounts, but it is going to be too little too late. Then again, they can't take my fishing rod away, so I will always be able to catch my food after my Alpo supply runs low.

30. We will get blue eventually....
I know the overall state numbers favored Texas' villiage idiot but if you look at counties like Dallas County, Kerry got 49% of the votes...and Dallas County is HUGE. It has urban and redneck parts of town. They even elected a Hispanic lesbian for county sheriff! So we are very purple and NOT red at all!
Travis County went blue also according to the TX Sec of State webpage and then South Texas was blue.
National dems will get OUT of Texas what they put INTO Texas. Ignore the dems down here and, well, they do like the TX Dem webpage tells them to do...at one point it said to send their $$ contributions to AUSTIN politicians and not the national level cuz TX dems were being snubbed by the national Dem party.

I've been down here for 18 yrs and we have come a long way. When NYPD Blue came out, the local Dallas ABC channel refused to air it...the local assholes..uh, I mean bible thumpers felt a need to "protect" everyone down here. Then the show started raking in the money for ads and the local channel starting showing it. 18 yrs later and we now actually have gotten to see Desparate Housewives from the very first episode!!

23. Unfortunately, our programs for keeping jobs here is weak,
and I'm afraid that most people know it.

Our tax proposals might make a bit of difference around the edges. Kerry, Clinton and other leaders of our party believe in globalism and are not prepared to leave or renegotiate our participation in WTO, NAFTA or anything like it. There will be no surcharges for lack of environmental protection, workplace safety, union organizing, let alone currency manipulation, on any imports.

Edwards might want to do something, but won't. Kucinich is considered fringe and Gephardt is finished.

Really, we're offering many working people no economic salvation so they're turning to the religious salvation that the pubbies offer.

34. Collin County, too
Which is my county, unfortuntely. The locals have yet to connect the effin' dots..Nortel, EDS, Alcatel all here in Collin County have massively laid off people, outsourced jobs to India, or just plain CLOSED down. There are 5 gas stations within 3 miles of my house that have closed. The county's house foreclosure list has had houses that cost $100,000, $200,000 and more from all the laid off dot commers and high tech folks who were living high on the hog during the Clinton years. So now locals are frantically building hospitals in order to try and boost the county's economy. of course, we have no NURSES to staff those hospitals, but that is another story.
Yet the repukes follow blindly and voted for shrub..WTF?

I ordered a "Don't blame me, I voted for Kerry" bumper sticker from the internet this weekend..just doin' my part to piss off the local repukes around here!
