Nader calls for US election recounts
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041111/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_nader_041111153145&e=5

Ralph Nader (news - web sites), an independent presidential candidate this year, has called for recounts of November 2 voting results saying that amid allegations of irregularities, he wanted to ensure that every ballot was counted.

Nader, who this year drew about one percent of the vote nationally, told a press conference Wednesday he was speaking out for the "thousands" of US voters asking for recounts and not on his own behalf.

"Over 2,000 citizens including voting rights advocates are urging in writing the Nader Camejo campaign to help make sure every vote is counted and counted accurately. The Nader Camejo campaign does not view the election to be over merely because concession speeches, which have no legal effect, have been given. Rather they are over when every vote is counted and legally certified," Nader said.

He urged recounts particularly in the hotly disputed states of Ohio and Florida, which went to Bush, New Hampshire which went to Kerry, and North Carolina, which went to Bush.

1. This is what Nader should have been doing instead of running...
after 2000 he should have taken up BBV instead of running.

Someone steer this man in the right direction where his energy can do good, not harm.

5. This is what he's good at...
however my opinion of him has dropped through the floor. I now question his motivations, just like all of the other politicians out there.

8. Good for you
Avoid thinking, it will only give you a headache. Believe the myths about Nader, it is far easier than reading, thinking and understanding.

23. I had supported nader for years, he is an excellent consumer
advocate, however once he started saying things like, "Gore didn't use his full intelligence during the 2000 campaign" and started willfully accepting repuke dollars to support his prez run, he lost all credibility to me. He's just another shill now.

Only thing he cares about is trying desperately to remain relevant.

29. Assumptions are dangerous and seldom correct
I note that you echo the mantra established here by the neoconservative defenders of the democratic swing to the right. As a long time admirer of Nader , and as one who continued to read his speeches and websites I found nothing to indicate he was anything but a very concerned progressive thinker who was as furious at Bush as he was at democratic failures.Time and again Nader blasted Bush policies and decisions, far more often than he did the (deserving)democrats.

I strongly urge you to consider that the neoconservatives who support the democratic veer to the right use Ralph as a scapegoat, to incite a mob mentality and to keep people from looking to the party itself for flaws and faults.

I happen to agree with his assessment of Gore's campaign, though blame must fall on his campaign mis-manager (Donna Brazile) as well as on Albert. I could care less from whom he got donations, though I read that monies from known republican sources was returned in some cases.Anyone who qualifies can run for office, can say what h/she chooses and let the voter decide.Nader chose a life of public service, was taught this philosophy at his father's knee and could have made a huge fortune coming out of a top notch law school with great grades. He chose consumer advocacy instead of great wealth and that alone should make you think twice about these critics.

39. Awww what a shame
Nader used whoever he needed to get his message across. He took monies wherever and whenevr. His message still resonated as an old fashioned democratic one, unlike the current crop of neoconservative pap.

13. However, had he NOT ran, he could NOT be requesting recounts!
Perhaps there was some strategy all along? I don't know, I like to think the BEST of people and their motives (when they have a history of being on the correct side of issues). So, perhaps that earlier meeting between Nader and Kerry had a little more behind it than meets the eye?

Nader was not a factor in this election (as far as siphoning votes from Kerry). However, he still has a chance to have a POSITIVE effect on the election, and it keeps Kerry's hands "clean" as far as not having to request the recounts himself, looking like a "sore loser". Keep in mind, had Nader NOT run, he could NOT be requesting these recounts! Important to bear in mind. (Well, technically, in some states he COULD have, but it would have been far more complicated with him not on the ballot).

GO NADER! (Yeah, never thought I'd be saying that either! And go to www.HelpAmericaRecount.org if you can donate to the recount funds!)

They are afraid the Christians will vote them out of office.

I emailed Nader a long note days ago...called Sen.Kerry and emailed him.

Nader beat Sen. Kerry on this.

The media will continue to make fun of us until the
Democratic party elected stand up and cry FOUL!

16. But are recounts really the problem??
I don't trust nader. What about the e-votes that have nothing to recount. What about the ballots thrown away. And what about the people turned away at the voting precints or those that got fed up with waiting and just left.

Lots of problems with this election besides recounts.
