Buchanan: The Imperial Retreat Begins
Buchanan is forthright with the troop problem, and that * knows we don't have enough to send another division, not without calling up more reserves.

It is worth reading at least to throw back into the faces of Repukes who say all the criticism is coming from "libruls."

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34467

We cannot do it by ourselves in Iraq. We need help. (SNIP)

Moreover – and here is the central point – the United States does not intend a dramatic increase in U.S. troop levels in Iraq. Sen. McCain's call for another division has been heard and rejected. There is apparently no constituency, or stomach in the White House, for a long bloody war, if that is what it takes to pacify Iraq. (SNIP)

Nevertheless, given the choices he faced, Bush made the right call. With our global commitments, crises coming with Iran and North Korea over nuclear weapons, the bleeding war in Afghanistan and the reduced size of our Army, we do not have the forces to fight the five- or 10-year war the hawks say is necessary in Iraq.
(SNIP)

Insiders say that the president's decision to return to the United Nations and "internationalize" Iraq is a victory for Powell and the Joint Chiefs. They do not want to fight an Iraqi intifada and Islamic terror only with U.S. troops. The president is said also to have concluded that he was misled about what to expect when Baghdad fell, and that the preparations and plans of Secretary Rumsfeld and the Pentagon for postwar Iraq were woefully inadequate. (SNIP)

1. As much as I hate to say it-

Buchanan did reports on PNAC from the very start, and consistently summed up my feelings against the war in Iraq very well. And before anyone paints me as anti-semitic, let it be known that I agreed with his viewpoints and I am a Jew.

I saved this article: http://www.amconmag.com/03_24_03/cover.html

Buchanan was tough on the neocons and laid out the whole PNAC agenda. Is Buchanan the only one beating the drum against the PNAC on national news?

God.....I can't believe I'm in agreement with Pat.........

edited for stupidity

4. Most of his articles lately
have been very critical of WA and the war, the offshoring of jobs, etc. His reich-wing status provides lots of ammo against claims that criticism is politically driven.

2. So, Dubya, when are you going to fire Rummy?
The president is said also to have concluded that he was misled about what to expect when Baghdad fell, and that the preparations and plans of Secretary Rumsfeld and the Pentagon for postwar Iraq were woefully inadequate.

LOL, of course everyone (except freepers) knows that Dubya is just a puppet figurehead for the PNACers and he can't fire a White House janitor unless his bosses tell him to.

7. I like Buchanan
I don't support his positions, but he has always been a straight talker. He tells you what he thinks, his mind is his own, and he stands by his positions instead of waffling. I admire his consistency and his sharp mind. I just wish his views were far different than what they are.

8. That Rules!!!
The US needs a better right and a better left. The internet has allowed us to build better outsider candidates like Dean and Clark taking away power from big party bosses. My hope is that in 2004 we'll clean the repukes clock, and when the do come back they'll have have more respectable candidates too. I'm not saying they should Buchanan, just people more toward the middle that won't be a puppet.

9. An excellent article........many points to ponder in this..........
Buchanan often sees the reality of a situation that others miss. If he could just get his personality together he might have been a conservative Democrat......But, he's more Nixonian in his thinking. He never could get be beyond that.....but that's why he's an interesting read for us Dems sometimes when it matters most to have a fresh viewpoint.
