Helen Thomas: Bush makes wrong choice for U.N.
By HELEN THOMAS
HEARST NEWSPAPERS

WASHINGTON -- President Bush's decision to send hard-liner John Bolton to represent the United States at the United Nations carries this clear message: Expect more tough talk from the United States.

What can Bush have been thinking?

The president and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made recent trips to Europe to extend an olive branch to old allies and friends who have become estranged because of the administration's belligerent policies.

Bolton's appointment makes me wonder if the administration's recent peace-making was merely a line touted strictly for public consumption.

3. For American Audience
The European citizens were kept far away from Bush. They were actually irritated by his visit. The European leaders were polite but would rather see actions than speeches. Our press was the only one talking about how well it went. I guess it was to lay the groundwork so when the next half-baked plan is rejected internationally, they can say "See, we tried".

what he was thinking. He's thinking that the UN had better shape up to his satisfaction. He is sending a clear message that he is going to continue to go his own way, and the UN can hop on board, or get out of the way..

You can agreer or disagree with his message, but can you seriously doubt that that is what it is.

Yippeyayokayay hell I can't spell that! Damn it.
