failed campaign shows Ohio's Democratic Party in its glorious suckitude
http://www.clevescene.com/issues/2005-04-13/news/news.html

Susan Gwinn checked her e-mail dozens of times on March 23. Each time, she watched the Ohio Democratic Party slump a little further into its own grave.
There was the e-mail from the Young Democrats, urging people to register for the annual conference. Another from the Ohio Audubon Society asked recipients to support improved rail service. She received plenty of messages from lefty groups opposing Congress's plan to open the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling, and one from state Senator Eric Fingerhut on his new tax proposal.

Still, Gwinn sat before her computer, astonished. The deadline was fast approaching for Ohio Democrats to challenge a new law that could give Republicans a permanent majority. Instead of fighting it, however, the party did what it so often does: cast urgent messages into the black computer void, hoping that someone else does something.

"It was frightening to watch, really," says Gwinn, president of the Athens County Democratic Party. "I remember thinking, 'My goodness. How can this be happening?'"...

1. That about sums it up
I would go as far as to say that in some counties the head of the democratic party - and the democratic position on the election board - are held by republicans in disguise.

I know that's a heavy accusation to levee, but after paying just a little bit of attention to what is going on, the blunder after blunder, failed promises, etc. it's what I believe to be true.

2. That's putting it nicely
about a quarter to a half of the democrats in this state are 'moderates' who jump on the repuke bandwagon at the drop of a hat.

8. If you think it is bad now, what if we lose in 2008?
It will get worse, much worse. Look at the supreme court, keep in mind most of the liberal changes in this country as of late have been through the court. Can the liberal members of the court who are rapidly getting up in age last until 2013. I do not think so. Bush will get to pick at least 1 (The chief justice is quite ill) and some think as many as 4 (I do not agree with that). But if a republican gets the Whitehouse in 2008 there will be at least 7 if not the whole 9 memebers choosen by a Republican at some time or another.

3. The country has certainly gone to hell...
and we cannot even get a Democrat in Congress to say so. Of course we have a war criminal in residence and we cannot get a Democrat Congress to say so. We have a military with a budget big enough to sink the whole system even before new theaters of World War 3 are opened, and we cannot get one Democrat in Congress to say so. We have the most polluted environment on the planet and we cannot get one Democrat in Congress to say so. We have a controlled media that programs the masses with lies and distracts them with anything but news, and we cannot get one Democrat in Congress to say so.

Maybe it is all because the country has gone to hell even if nobody in Congress wants to say so.

Both sides take money from the same corp.'s so they do as they are told.

6. My, what a broad stroke you paint for Ohioans...
I am a resident of Ohio and I know a fair number of progressives, including myself. Of course there could be more progressives here but that is not the case.

I take offense at your broad stroke that all Ohioans are portrayed as "standing in church singing and waiting for the world to end." I for one is an atheist and the last thing I want is to be labeled with the religious idiots of the state.

I will say that it is bad here since the repukes control all three branches of government but the repukes are making mistakes and some day the tide will shift back to a more rational mindset, or at least I hope so for the sake of the state. One day the majority of the population will realize that the repukes have been in control and they are driving the state into the ground but hopefully not before it is too late.

12. yes , it was a very broad brush,
was looking to ruffle some feathers...but overall I Don't understand that Midwest " the End is Near" type of thought...I think that Bill Clinton would have us excited about the new Millennium and moving forward; not back to the 19th century

7. Where was Kucinich? Isn't he a US Rep from Ohio?
How come he or his staff aren't keeping abreast of the state of the Ohio Dem Party? I mean, he is more directly affected by the Ohio State Dem Party's health than I am.
