"Repuplican Moderates, you done gone and joined the Klan!" (--Driftglass)

Driftglass has a brilliant, simple strategy: Peel off 100,000 MODERATE Republicans by showing them how they're helping the Fundies destroy America. Blame the current mess squarely on Moderate Repubs who got in bed with Fundie lunatics and tell them to either stay home or vote Dem next time.

Driftglass is a great strategist, and fun to read too.

For my Moderate Friends, its time to face some unhappy facts. The biopsy can back, and the news ain’t good: turns out while you were dreaming your happy Tax Cut dreams, the always amusing and hardworking Christianofascist wing of your party metastasized.
Consider this from Dana Milbank in today’s WaPo:

Conservative leaders meeting in Washington yesterday for a discussion of "Remedies to Judicial Tyranny" decided that Kennedy, a Ronald Reagan appointee, should be impeached, or worse.

Phyllis Schlafly, doyenne of American conservatism, said Kennedy's opinion forbidding capital punishment for juveniles "is a good ground of impeachment." To cheers and applause from those gathered at a downtown Marriott for a conference on "Confronting the Judicial War on Faith," Schlafly said that Kennedy had not met the "good behavior" requirement for office and that "Congress ought to talk about impeachment."
...
Not to be outdone, lawyer-author Edwin Vieira told the gathering that Kennedy should be impeached because his philosophy, evidenced in his opinion striking down an anti-sodomy statute, "upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law." Ominously, Vieira continued by saying his "bottom line" for dealing with the Supreme Court comes from Joseph Stalin. "He had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: 'no man, no problem,' "

2. That is absolutely wonderfully put.
It's the absolute truth, too.

4. yup. the ONLY thing that will break the banana republican stranglehold...
is for "moderate" republicans -- the genuine conservatives, that is -- to realize that the banana republican leadership has BETRAYED them, lied to them, sold them a bill of goods.

the current and future banana republican agenda has NOTHING to do with conservativism. today, democratic policies are FAR more genuinely conservative than those of the banana republicans.

preserving democracy, preserving the balance of power, preserving a genuinely free AND FAIR marketplace for genuine competition, managing our natural resources for the best use of all, reducing our dependence on foreign goods (most notably oil), promoting education, keeping our workforce employed, keeping our deficit in check, and so on ... ALL THESE ARE CONSERVATIVE POSITIONS and they are ALL DEMOCRATIC POSITIONS.

the banana republican policies far more closely resemble those of peoples we have gone to war against and supposedly defeated -- mother england, the confederacy, fascist italy.

this is not your father's republican party.

5. Many, many, many times I have said we are the easiest group for the Dems..
Democrats can pick up a large portion of the moderate Republicans, without too much effort. We DO NOT support any of the following: Fiscal irresponsibility, socially regressive policies, unilateral foreign policy, or Government intrusion into privacy/personal matters. Seems like most of the Democrats are opposed to these things as well so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Someday the Republican party may return to sanity, but in the meantime, the only thing the RNC will listen to is large voting blocs of moderates voting for Democrats.

Let's see how many elections they can win with JUST the efungelical voters --- bwahhhaaahhhaaa:rofl:
