Scientific American is at it again! |
|
I just got the June 2005 issue -- it has "Suspended Animation" on the front.
A month or two ago I posted about their slightly-not-satirical oped piece about journalistic balance and scientific publication.
This month is is a whole article about how lobbyists are perverting science for commercial interests: "Doubt is their product" by David Michaels.
I guess SciAm is now officially part of the Liberal Media. Or maybe their board and editors are just fed up with the outrageous War On Science being waged by Bush and the fundies.
I don't see it on the web page yet, but keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for posting. I remember well your post about their snarky "April Fools" letter. I'm actually using that piece in the sermon I'm preaching tomorrow about the evolution/creationism debate in Kansas. (UU sermon, heavy emphasis on humanism tomorrow.) Now I can see I'll have to read this article, too.
Thanks again! :hi:

3. "The Morning of the Modern Mind" still |

keeps the evolutionary idea that we evolved from ape-like ancestors, an idea a fundie would never entertain. It was Adam and Eve you know.
Edited for clarity.

But if there is anything the fundies hate more than liberals, its the truth. And SciAm is one of the too few major periodicals that is dedicated to truth above politics.
That's why the fundies have a War on Science. They can't control it with their worldview, and they are afraid their children will listen to it and not them. Totally intolerable.
So that makes SciAm "liberal." Open mind, not dogma.

political terms, but then science has never been so politicized. I'm glad we can still depend upon the scientific community for crititcal thinking.
